A report of dangerously high carbon monoxide levels within the passenger compartment of a snow-obstructed vehicle

open access: yesBMC Emergency Medicine, 2004
Background We sought to determine how quickly carbon monoxide would accumulate in the passenger compartment of a snow-obstructed vehicle. Methods A 1992 sedan was buried in snow to the level of the undercarriage, the ignition was then engaged and carbon ...

Carbon Monoxide in type II supernovae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Infrared spectra of two type II supernovae 6 months after explosion are presented. The spectra exhibit a strong similarity to the observations of SN 1987A and other type II SNe at comparable epochs. The continuum can be fitted with a cool black body and the hydrogen lines have emissivities that are approximately those of a Case B recombination spectrum.

Long-term mortality of adult patients with carbon monoxide poisoning presenting to the emergency department in Korea: a population-based cohort study [PDF]

open access: yesAcute and Critical Care
Background Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. However, relatively few studies have investigated its long-term mortality impact. This nationwide population-based cohort study examined the association between CO

A Mini-Review on Metal Oxide Semiconductor Gas Sensors for Carbon Monoxide Detection at Room Temperature

open access: yesChemosensors
Carbon monoxide can cause severe harm to humans even at low concentrations. Metal Oxide Semiconductor (MOS) carbon monoxide gas sensors have excellent sensing performance regarding sensitivity, selectivity, response speed, and stability, making them very

Quantifying Oxidation Rates of Carbon Monoxide on a Pt/C Electrode [PDF]

open access: yesElectrochimica Acta, 58, 723-728, 2011, 2013
The electrochemical oxidation of carbon monoxide adsorbed (COad) on platinum-on-carbon electrodes was studied via a methodology in which pre-adsorbed CO was partially oxidized by applying potentiostatic pulses for certain durations. The residual COad was analyzed using stripping voltammetry that involved the deconvolution of COad oxidation peaks of ...

Mapping and Monitoring Pollution Levels of Carbon Monoxide (CO) using Arduino and Location-Based Service [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Air pollution is a serious issue in the world. Around 98% of cities with a population of over 100,000 people in low and middle-income countries do not meet air quality standards, while in high-income countries, the number has decreased by 52%. Industries and motor vehicles are the biggest contributors to carbon monoxide (CO).Air pollution is a severe ...

Ground state structure of polymeric carbon monoxide with high energy density [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 95, 144102 (2017), 2016
Crystal structure prediction methods and first-principles calculations have been used to explore low-energy structures of carbon monoxide (CO). Contrary to the standard wisdom, the most stable structure of CO at ambient pressure was found to be a polymeric structure of Pna21 symmetry rather than a molecular solid. This phase is formed from six-membered

Analytical Models of Exoplanetary Atmospheres. III. Gaseous C-H-O-N Chemistry with 9 Molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We present novel, analytical, equilibrium-chemistry formulae for the abundances of molecules in hot exoplanetary atmospheres that include the carbon, oxygen and nitrogen networks. Our hydrogen-dominated solutions involve acetylene (C$_2$H$_2$), ammonia (NH$_3$), carbon dioxide (CO$_2$), carbon monoxide (CO), ethylene (C$_2$H$_4$), hydrogen cyanide (HCN)
