Acetylcholinesterase inhibitor treatment alleviated cognitive impairment caused by delayed encephalopathy due to carbon monoxide poisoning

open access: yesMedicine, 2017
Introduction: Delayed encephalopathy due to carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning can even occur in patients with mild symptoms of acute CO poisoning. Some cases taking conventional hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy or steroid-pulse therapy may be insufficient ...

Carbon monoxide toxicity in Dammam, KSA: Retrospective study

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2015
Carbon monoxide (CO) toxicity is one of the common types of poisoning, and the aim of this study is to evaluate CO poisoning during 2004–2013. The study was based on autopsy samples sent to the forensic chemistry laboratory in Dammam during the study ...

Spectroscopic detection of Carbon Monoxide in the Young Supernova Remnant Cassiopeia A [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report the detection of carbon monoxide (CO) emission from the young supernova remnant Cassiopeia A (Cas A) at wavelengths corresponding to the fundamental vibrational mode at 4.65 micron. We obtained AKARI Infrared Camera spectra towards 4 positions which unambiguously reveal the broad characteristic CO ro-vibrational band profile.

Five-coordinate H64Q neuroglobin as a ligand-trap antidote for carbon monoxide poisoning

open access: yesScience Translational Medicine, 2016
A mutant five-coordinate neuroglobin with a very high carbon monoxide binding affinity acts as an antidote to bind and eliminate CO. Antidote for an invisible foe We cannot see it, taste it, or smell it.

ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction Due to Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

open access: yesEurasian Journal of Medicine, 2011
Carbon monoxide is formed as a result of combustion of any carbon compound and can lead to hypoxia in many organs including the brain and the heart. Carbon monoxide poisoning in the United States is the leading cause of the fatal poisonings.

A preliminary study in the alterations of mitochondrial respiration in patients with carbon monoxide poisoning measured in blood cells

open access: yesClinical toxicology, 2017
Objectives: Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless and odorless gas responsible for poisoning mortality and morbidity in the United States. At this time, there is no reliable method to predict the severity of poisoning or clinical prognosis following CO ...

The orbital motion, absolute mass, and high-altitude winds of exoplanet HD209458b [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
For extrasolar planets discovered using the radial velocity method, the spectral characterization of the host star leads to a mass-estimate of the star and subsequently of the orbiting planet. In contrast, if also the orbital velocity of the planet would be known, the masses of both star and planet could be determined directly using Newton's law of ...

Increased risk for diabetes mellitus in patients with carbon monoxide poisoning

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2017
Carbon monoxide poisoning (COP) causes hypoxic injury and inflammatory and immunological reactions in the brain and local organs including the pancreas. Therefore, it is plausible that COP may increase the risk for developing diabetes mellitus (DM), but ...

Monóxido de carbono en cadáveres y su relevancia para la medicina forense

open access: yesRevista Médica Hondureña
Carbon monoxide poisoning causes 50,000 deaths per year globally, being the leading cause of gas poisoning. In Honduras, between 2012 and 2016, it caused 18 deaths, 72% accidental and 28% suicides.
