An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Converging Patterns of Heterotrophic Respiration Between Growing and Non-Growing Seasons in Northern Temperate Grasslands

open access: yesPlants
Temperate grasslands are highly sensitive to climate change and play a crucial role in terrestrial carbon cycling. In the context of global warming, heterotrophic respiration (Rh) has intensified, contributing significantly to atmospheric CO2 emissions ...

Study of the time and space distribution of beta+ emitters from 80 MeV/u carbon ion beam irradiation on PMMA

open access: yes, 2012
Proton and carbon ion therapy is an emerging technique used for the treatment of solid cancers. The monitoring of the dose delivered during such treatments and the on-line knowledge of the Bragg peak position is still a matter of research.

Measuring the progress and impacts of decarbonising British electricity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Britain’s ambitious carbon targets require that electricity be immediately and aggressively decarbonised, so it is reassuring to report that electricity sector emissions have fallen 46% in the three years to June 2016, their lowest since 1960. This paper

Evaluating provincial carbon emission characteristics under China’s carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2023
This study defines Provincial Carbon Emission Characteristics (PCEC) as the socioeconomic conditions influencing provincial carbon emissions, the potential for carbon neutrality, and carbon management strategies. Given China’s commitment to peak carbon emissions and to achieve carbon neutrality, the development of a robust and versatile PCEC evaluation
