Responses of Soil Quality and Microbial Community Composition to Vegetation Restoration in Tropical Coastal Forests

open access: yesBiology
Afforestation substantially promotes vegetation restoration and modifies soil physical, chemical, and biological properties. The integrated effects of soil properties on soil quality, expressed via a composite soil quality index (SQI), remain unclear ...

Can China Achieve Its Carbon Emission Peak Target? Empirical Evidence from City-Scale Driving Factors and Emission Reduction Strategies

open access: yesLand, 2023
The development of differentiated emission reduction strategies plays an important role in achieving carbon compliance targets. Each city should adopt carbon reduction strategies according to its carbon emission characteristics.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Scale-dependence of aboveground carbon accumulation in secondary forests of Panama: A test of the intermediate peak hypothesis

open access: yes, 2012
Accumulation of aboveground carbon is one of the most important services provided by tropical secondary forests-a land-cover type that is increasing in importance globally.

Converging Patterns of Heterotrophic Respiration Between Growing and Non-Growing Seasons in Northern Temperate Grasslands

open access: yesPlants
Temperate grasslands are highly sensitive to climate change and play a crucial role in terrestrial carbon cycling. In the context of global warming, heterotrophic respiration (Rh) has intensified, contributing significantly to atmospheric CO2 emissions ...

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Column Abundances of Carbon Dioxide and Methane Retrieved from Ground-Based Near-Infrared Solar Spectra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
To predict future climate change, we must accurately predict future atmospheric concentrations of CO₂ and CH₄. The current budget has typically been inferred from top-down analyses of measurements from a global network of surface sites.
