Stabilization of Silicon–Carbon Mixed Oxides

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2015
The first carbene-stabilized silicon-carbon mixed oxide, (SiO2)2CO2 (4), was synthesized by CO2 oxidation of either carbene-stabilized disilicon, L:Si═Si:L (L: = :C{N(2,6-Pr(i)2C6H3)CH}2) (1), or carbene-stabilized Si2O3 (2) (which can be obtained via N2O oxidation of 1).

Stability of buckminsterfullerene and related carbon clusters

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 1986
Under appropriate collisional conditions the mass spectrum of carbon fragments produced by laser vaporization of graphite is dominated by C/sub 60/ and (to a lesser extent) C/sub 70/ clusters. The discoverers of this phenomenon have noted that the carbon valence requirements can be satisfied in closed, hollow structures.

Pseudocarbynes: Charge-Stabilized Carbon Chains

The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, 2016
Carbyne is the long-sought linear allotrope of carbon. Despite many reports of solid carbyne, the evidence is unconvincing. A recent report of supposed carbyne shows gold clusters in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images. In order to determine the effects of such clusters, we performed ab initio calculations of uncapped and capped linear carbon

Stability of Carbon Nanosupports

2019
The carbon nanosupports used for the preparation of catalysts for hydrogenation applications must exhibit sufficient stability and/or low reactivity under various pressures of H2 and temperatures. In addition, water can be present in reaction streams either as part of the feed or as the product of hydrodeoxygenation reactions. The CO2 formed during the

Stability analysis of a reinforced carbon carbon shell

18th Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, 1977
This paper presents the development of a stability analysis for the nose cap of the NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter. Stability is evaluated by the differential stiffness analysis of the NASTRAN finite-element computer code, addressing those nonstandard characteristics in the nose cap such as nonuniform curvature, asymmetrical and nonuniform loads, support ...

Stability of Supershort Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2005
How short can single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) be? How stable are such supershort SWNTs (ss-SWNTs)? This work is the first to address these questions. On the basis of binding energy (E(B)), standard heats of formation , and strain energy (E(S)), we found that SWNTs with only one benzene ring in the axial direction, which we refer to as supershort

Stability of fragmentation of carbon clusters

Chemical Physics Letters, 1990
Abstract Metastable evaporation of carbon cluster ions produced from excimer laser ablation of polyimide has been investigated in a reflection time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer. Rate constants for the decay process are extracted from the parent and fragment peak intensities.

Energetics and stability of diamondlike amorphous carbon

Physical Review Letters, 1992
Simulations of diamondlike amorphous carbon formed by quenching the liquid under high pressure indicate that two distinctly different dense phases exist. The «as-quenched» phase is metastable and mostly fourfold coordinated. Upon annealing, it converts into a more stable structure with the majority of atoms having threefold coordination.

Thermal stability of polyurethanes with carbon‐carbon crosslinks

Die Angewandte Makromolekulare Chemie, 1989
AbstractThermal properties of polyurethanes based on 4,4′‐diphenylmethane diisocyanate and poly(ethylene adipate) crosslinked only by CC linkages were studied by isothermal and non‐isothermal thermogravimetry carried out in nitrogen atmosphere. Previously studied polyurethanes crosslinked only with allophanate groups were used for comparison. It was ...
