Diffusion of Carbon in Steels

2008
Although the carburizing of steel has been in wide application for a long time, there are some disagreements in the explanation of fundamental rules of diffusion process in this field. Even now the view-point that the concentration gradient is the driving force for diffusion of carbon in steels can be found in literature.

Carbon and Alloy Steels

2001
Abstract This article discusses the role of alloying in the production and use of carbon and low-alloy steels. It explains how steels are defined and selected based on alloy content and provides composition and property data for a wide range of designations and grades.

Carbon and Alloy Steels

Abstract This article presents 405 fractographs of carbon and alloy steels that failed by overload, fatigue, stress-corrosion cracking, and embrittlement. A very small sampling of fractographs in the article shows an optical image of woody ductile overload of AISI 1144 resulfurized steel with fracture parallel to MnS inclusions.
