Mineralized Cryogel/Hydrogel Constructs to Recapitulate Early Breast Cancer Bone Metastasis In Vitro

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new biphasic in vitro cryogel/hydrogel model of early breast cancer bone metastasis provides precise control over microenvironmental cues and microscopic access to the spatiotemporal cancer cell distribution. Deposited bone‐like mineral is observed to strongly impede the effects of biomolecular signals, as evidenced by both colonization profiles and ...

Neuronal Cholesterol Deficiency Mediated by Astrocytic SREBP2 Downregulation Leads to Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction Through Impairment of Hippocampal Synaptic Plasticity and Excitatory Synaptic Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The results showed that the reduction of plasma 24‐hydroxycholesterol (24‐OHC) was related to the cognitive decline in elderly surgical patients. Neuroinflammation induced by anesthesia and surgery significantly downregulated SREBP2 in hippocampal reactive astrocytes, resulting in reduced cholesterol synthesis.

Trackable Tolerogenic Macrophages Integrate PD‐L1 and Rapamycin Signaling to Suppress Alloimmune Responses in Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We developed a macrophage‐based therapeutic platform, termed trackable tolerogenic macrophages (TTM), for dual‐function immunomodulation and visualization in vivo. TTM cells were engineered to overexpress PD‐L1, incorporate bioorthogonal cell surface tags, and load rapamycin for sustained release.

Biomass carbon stocks and stock changes in managed hedgerows

Science of The Total Environment, 2023
Landscape features, such as hedgerows, can play a role in enhancing terrestrial carbon (C) sinks, especially in North-western Europe, where they form a large part of the agricultural landscape. To date, there are few studies relating aerial imagery to ground-truthed biomass measurements and relating changes in biomass to hedgerow management. This study

Cataloguing Soil Carbon Stocks

Science, 2010
In their Report (“Terrestrial gross carbon dioxide uptake: Global distribution and covariation with climate,” 13 August, p. [834][1]), C. Beer et al. joined others ([ 1 ][2], [ 2 ][3]) in estimating global carbon fluxes and their relationship to climate.

Carbon Stock Estimate

2016
Tropical peatlands have changed their role from carbon sinks to carbon sources mainly by recent anthropogenic disturbances. It is an urgent issue to evaluate the importance of tropical peatlands as carbon stocks and to preserve the ecosystems including their carbon dynamics. Spatial distribution of carbon mass at a regional level needs to be delineated

Soil Carbon Stock

2018
Total soil carbon (C) stock comprises of the soil organic C (SOC) and the soil inorganic C (SIC) components. The global SOC stock of ice-free land contains about 1,325–1,500 Pg (1 Pg = 1015 g) C in the top 1 m, 2,300 Pg C in the top 3 m, and 3,000 Pg C in the soil profiles.
