Sensitivities to Flow–modeling Assumptions for a Heterogeneous Carbonate Ramp – An Example from a Jurassic Carbonate Ramp

72nd EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2010, 2010
Carbonate reservoirs pose significant challenges for reservoir simulation and flow prediction due to lateral and vertical heterogeneities that are difficult to predict. Limits to seismic resolution, heterogeneities in rock properties and limited constraints on subsurface data require the consideration of multiple geologic scenarios for flow predictions.

Demise of a Devonian-Carboniferous carbonate ramp by eutrophication

Geology, 1996
The occurrence of organic-rich mudrocks overlying carbonate deposits in the rock record has typically been ascribed to changes in relative sea level. We propose, alternatively, that progressive eutrophication of the euphotic zone caused the ecological demise of a Late Devonian marine carbonate ramp system in Alberta and its subsequent burial in organic-

Defining Flow Units in Dolomitized Carbonate-Ramp Reservoirs

SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, 1992
ABSTRACT The problem of defining flow units in carbonate reservoirs has been investigated by integrated geological, petrophysical, and geostatistical outcrop studies. Results show that flow units (mappable intervals with similar petrophysical properties) can best be defined in terms of rock-fabric fades. Geostatistical analysis indicates

Carbon Capture Ramps Up

Chemical & Engineering News Archive, 2014
An international energy industry partnership and the Department of Energy plan to construct what will be the world’s largest carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) facility at an operating coal-fired power plant. If successful, the project would be a game changer.

An evaluation of the ramp metering effectiveness in reducing carbon dioxide emissions

SIMULATION, 2012
In this study, we develop a methodology to estimate the effectiveness of ramp metering in reducing CO 2 emissions. Ramp metering is one of several Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications to control traffic flow.

The modern carbonate ramp slope of central West Florida

Journal of Sedimentary Research, 1988
Abstract A holistic investigation of the modern carbonate ramp slope of central west Florida has been completed via analysis of approximately 1,500 km of air-gun seismic reflection profiles tied to two drillcores and bottom samples recovered at 92 stations.

Development of transient carbonate ramps in an evolving foreland basin

Basin Research, 2018
AbstractThis study of Eocene carbonate succession in the Dinaric Foreland Basin of northern Dalmatia, Croatia, integrates palaeontological and sedimentological data to document a range of carbonate ramps formed intermittently during the basin tectonic development. The end‐Cretaceous basal erosional unconformity records the coupling of Adria and Eurasia

Substrate-Slope and Temperature Controls on Carbonate Ramps

1997
Abstract: Exposures of Late Miocene (Tortonian) carbonate ramp strata in (he Cabo de Gata region (southeastern Spain) provide a unique opportunity to evaluate controls on platform development as climate evolved from temperate to subtropical.

Carbonate Ramp--Alternative to Shelf Model: ABSTRACT

AAPG Bulletin, 1973
One of the most common depositional models for carbonate rocks is the "shallow shelf." This model typically is constructed to show a nearly flat platform and a clearly defined shelf-slope break. Typically, there are detrital carbonates on the platforms, reefs or banks at the shelf-margin and basinal rocks seaward of the reefs. The usual analogs are the

Carbonate ramps, 1973–1996: a historical review

Geological Society, London, Special Publications, 1998
Abstract The carbonate ramp as a type of sedimentary depositional platform was conceived after failed attempts to fit some carbonate facies patterns to shelf models. Ramps were first defined as two-dimensional (2D) depositional surfaces along which facies variations reflect differences in the oceanographic environment from shore to basin ...
