Automatic Carbonate Rock Facies Identification with Deep Learning
, 2020Linking depositional properties and post-depositional diagenetic modifications of a rock with its petrophysical attributes remains a greatest challenge for carbonate rock characterization, formation evaluation and petrophysical rock typing.

Sequence stratigraphy of carbonate rocks
The Leading Edge, 1999In the first contribution to TLE’s Geologic Column, J. M. Mulholland concluded that “sequence stratigraphy … is a tool that every explorationist must master.” I agree. In fact, sequence stratigraphy is more than a versatile tool in exploration and production geology. It is in many ways a role model for applied earth sciences.

Stylolitization in Carbonate Rocks
1968Stylolite features are defined in terms of rock grain fabric relationships: intergranular and aggregate stylolites are differentiated. Geometric and genetic classifications of stylolites are offered. Megascopic and microscopic observations on the stylolites occuring in carbonate rocks of the Uppper Mississippian System in southern Illinois fluorspar ...

Stochastic multiscale model for carbonate rocks
Physical Review E, 2007A multiscale model for the diagenesis of carbonate rocks is proposed. It captures important pore scale characteristics of carbonate rocks: wide range of length scales in the pore diameters; large variability in the permeability; and strong dependence of the geometrical and transport parameters on the resolution.

The mineralogy and textures of sedimentary carbonate rocks suggest two stages of diagenesis. The stabilization of skeletal fragments from aragonite, high magnesian calcite and calcite, to calcite is the first stage and generally pre-compactive grain fracture.
