Sedimentology of the Mid-Visean limestones of the southern part of the Askrigg Block, North Yorkshire

open access: yes, 1984
The earliest Carboniferous deposits, resting with profound unconformity on Lower Palaeozoic rocks, have been mapped across their entire outcrop area on the Askrigg Block.

Rare earth elements in clay-sized fractions: Implications for weathering fingerprint from parent materials to soils

open access: yesGeoderma
Rare earth elements (REEs) have gained attention as tracers of pedogenic processes over the last few decades. Clay-sized fractions (CSFs, < 2 μm) may play a crucial role in hosting REEs. To better understand the pedochemical signals of REEs in clay-sized

Engineered Nanotopography to Modulate Growth and Signaling of Neuronal Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the interaction between neurons and nanoscale topographies on engineered substrates. Neurons cultured on nanowires, nanopillars and nanoneedles exhibit enhanced neurite outgrowth, form more organized neuronal circuits, and display improved synaptic connectivity, compared to flat substrates.

Preparation, physical-chemical characterisation and cytocompatibility of calcium carbonate cements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The feasibility of calcium carbonate cements involving the recrystallisation of metastable calcium carbonate varieties has been demonstrated. Calcium carbonate cement compositions presented in this paper can be prepared straightforwardly by simply mixing

Melanin's Role in Balancing Mechanical Strength and Reproductive Output in Environmentally Stressed Fungal Spores

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Melanin content directly controls fungal spore mechanical properties, with pigmented spores achieving rupture forces two orders of magnitude higher than hyaline spores. Environmental stress drives this quantity‐quality tradeoff; stressed species invest energy in melanin‐reinforced, mechanically superior thick‐walled, super‐hydrophobic spores, while ...

Survey of the diagenesis process and effect these process on reservoir quality of the Kangan formation in South Pars Field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Kangan and Upper Dalan formations are forming reservoir sequence of the South Pars field. Litology of the kangan formation is carbonate and (limestone and dolomite with anhydrite intervals), so digenetic processes were very active in this formation and ...

Spatially Regulated Silicon Clusters in Trimodal Composite Anodes for High‐Energy Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A trimodal anode architecture spatially regulates silicon clusters within confined interstitial environments formed by graphite and contorted hexabenzocoronene. This confinement suppresses silicon aggregation and localized stress while enabling efficient Li‐ion transport, achieving high‐capacity, stable lithium‐ion batteries.
