Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

p-Nitrophenyl carbonate promoted ring-opening reactions of DBU and DBN affording lactam carbamates

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2016
The amidine bases DBU (1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene) and DBN (1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-ene) display nucleophilic behaviour towards highly electrophilic p-nitrophenyl carbonate derivatives with ring opening of the bicyclic ring to form ...

Risk Prediction Models for Recurrence After Curative Treatment of Early‐Stage or Locally Advanced Lung Cancer: A Systematic Review

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
This systematic review synthesizes prognostic models for survival and recurrence in resected non‐small cell lung cancer. While many models demonstrate moderate to good discrimination, few are externally validated and reporting quality is variable, limiting clinical applicability and highlighting the need for robust, transparent model development ...

Examples of Paleokarst in Mesozoic Carbonate Formations in the Carpathian Foreland Area

open access: yesEnergies
A paleokarst system developed in the Upper Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous carbonate complex has been recognized in the Carpathian Foreland area. Well logs testing and core data as well as an acoustic imager, a microresistivity scanner and six-arm dipmeter ...

3-Chloropropane-1,2-diol in models simulating processed foods: Precursors and agents causing its decomposition

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2003
Formation of 3-chloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) was studied in model mixtures consisting of sodium chloride and either glycerol or various lipids (phospholipids, monoacylglycerols, diacylglycerols, triacylglycerols) derived mainly from palmitic and oleic ...

Air Pollution and the Risk and Progression of Multiple Sclerosis: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Air pollution has been linked to several neurological conditions, including stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. Evidence regarding its association with multiple sclerosis (MS) remains conflicting, limited by small sample sizes. Methods PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane controlled register of trials (CENTRAL) were searched on ...
