Study on carbonation of low strength concrete made of brick aggregate

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
In urban and industrial settings, one of the most prevalent durability challenges faced by reinforced concrete (RC) structures is the corrosion of steel reinforcement due to carbonation.

Carbonation of surface protected concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Concrete structures are exposed to carbonation that may cause rapid decay, shortening their service life and raising maintenance and repair costs. Carbonation lowers the alkalinity of the concrete depassivating the steel reinforcement.

Mechanical Overloading‐Induced Nanomineral Crystal Perturbation from the Osteochondral Interface: A Potential Initiator of Osteoarthritis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Carbonation Resistance Performance and Micro-Structure Analysis of Glazed Hollow Bead Insulation Concrete

open access: yesInfrastructures, 2019
In this paper, the carbonation depths of glazed hollow bead insulation concrete (GHBC) and normal concrete (NC) at different carbonation ages are tested. The microstructure of GHBC and NC before and after carbonation were observed and compared by mercury

Influence of concrete composition on chloride ingress and carbonation : analysis by means of an extended data-set

open access: yes, 2017
In 2015 an IWT-TETRA project, called DurOBet, was initiated focusing on service life design assessment according to different chloride diffusion and carbonation models applied on Belgian concrete mixtures.

Corals and Reef‐Dwelling Fish Regulate Carbon Storage and Cycling Processes in Coral Reef Ecosystems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Coral reefs are biodiversity hotspots, yet their role in carbon storage and cycling remains poorly understood. Using field surveys and modeling in the South China Sea, we reveal the overlooked potential of carbon storage in reef ecosystems and how reef fish, corals, and surface sediment jointly shape reef carbon reservoirs.

Improving carbonation resistance, strength, and microstructure of concrete through compression casting

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
This study addresses the significant issue of steel corrosion in reinforced concrete structures, which incurs billions of dollars in annual costs globally, with a substantial portion attributed to concrete carbonation.

An Implanted Tooth That Can Feel

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To endow the implanted tooth with masticatory perception, herein we demonstrate that a 3D‐printed piezoelectric‐core/robust‐sheath implanted tooth can rebuild the sensing feedback, serving as “mechanoreceptors” in converting the mechanical chewing force to electrical signals, and up to brain through surrounding alveolar nerve system.

Numerical Simulation on Carbonation Depth of Concrete Structures considering Time- and Temperature-Dependent Carbonation Process

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
In order to further understand the carbonation process of concrete structures, the time- and temperature-dependent diffusion process of CO2 in concrete is simulated based on the law of the CO2 mass conservation, and a two-dimensional mass transfer ...

Lymphoid‐Tissue‐on‐Chip Recapitulates Human Antibody Responses In Vitro

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The presented lymphoid‐tissue‐on‐chip system allows culture of primary human tonsil cells at organotypic high density under perfusion for up to 4 weeks, emulates immune response to soluble vaccines and vaccination via peripheral antigen‐presenting cells and represents a useful tool to assess cellular interactions during homeostasis, immune responses ...
