Stepwise carbothermal reduction of bauxite ores

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mineral Processing, 2013
Abstract The commercial technologies for aluminium production include production of alumina from bauxite and smelting of alumina to produce aluminium. The current technology is energy intensive, and a major source of greenhouse gas emissions and harmful fluoride emissions.

Synthesis of high purity rutile nanoparticles from medium-grade Egyptian natural ilmenite

open access: yesBeni-Suef University Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, 2015
The Egyptian magmatic ilmenite is classified as a medium-grade ore. The present work is an attempt to produce a high-quality TiO2 that can be used in several industries from this medium-grade raw material using the mechanical activation, carbothermic ...

A metallurgical route to solar-grade silicon [PDF]

open access: yes
The aim of the process is to produce silicon for crystallization into ingots that can be sliced to wafers for processing into photovoltaic cells. If the potential purity can be realized, the silicon will also be applicable for ribbon pulling techniques ...

Ta–Zr carbides: Synthesis advances via carbothermal reduction and defect evolution observed through transmission electron microscopy ion irradiation

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract The thermodynamic stability of six distinct compositions within the Zr—Ta—C ternary system is investigated in this study, marking the first report of their synthesis through carbothermic reduction in vacuum. A prolonged annealing process at 2200°C enabled high densification and phase equilibrium.

Direct Production of Ferrochrome by Segregation Reduction of Chromite in the Presence of Calcium Chloride

open access: yesMetals, 2018
A solid reduction process is described whereby chromite is reduced with the help of calcium chloride to produce ferrochrome alloy powders with high metal recovery. The process involves segregation reduction of chromite using graphite as the reductant and

Thermodynamic modeling of silicon carbide formation during the Acheson process in non-stoichiometric mixtures

open access: yesВесці Нацыянальнай акадэміі навук Беларусі: Серыя фізіка-тэхнічных навук
A brief review and critical evaluation of the literature related to the mechanism of carbothermic reduction of silicon oxide is presented. To resolve the contradictions in the literature data about the number of chemical reactions and key intermediate ...
