Slaughter age and carcass traits of pheasants

open access: yesEuropean Poultry Science, 1999
This study was conducted to determine growth performance and carcass traits of pheasants at different slaughter ages. Day-old male and female chicks of a native pheasant genotype were used in the trial. The pheasants were grown in a floor rearing system. Birds were slaughtered at 13, 14 and 15 weeks of age.

Freeze‐dried Lactobacillus spp. improved average daily liveweight gain and reduced methane intensity in growing lambs

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Direct fed microbials (DFM) are natural and safe enteric methane mitigants for ruminant livestock systems. While previous studies have demonstrated the effect of Lactobacillus spp. on methane mitigation, challenges remain in effectively delivering DFM in extensive grazing systems. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the

Body and carcass measurements, carcass conformation and tissue distribution of high dairy genetic merit Holstein, standard dairy genetic merit Friesian and Charolais x Holstein-Friesian male cattle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
peer-reviewedThe increased proportion of Holstein genes in the dairy herd may have undesirable consequences for beef production in Ireland. A total of 72 spring-born calves, (24 Holstein (HO), 24 Friesian (FR) and 24 Charolais X Holstein-Friesian (CH ...

Herd-specific random regression carcass profiles for beef cattle after adjustment for animal genetic merit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Abattoir data are an important source of information for the genetic evaluation of carcass traits, but also for on-farm management purposes. The present study aimed to quantify the contribution of herd environment to beef carcass characteristics (weight,

Effects of feeding almond hulls to light lambs on carcass characteristics and meat quality

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Almond hulls (AH) are the main by‐product of almond processing for human consumption and contain bioactive compounds that can improve meat quality. Although AH are used as feed for dairy cows in some countries, information on their potential effects on meat quality is limited.

Taro leaf and stylo forage as protein sources for pigs in Laos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Existing forage plants may have applications as alternative protein resources for pigs in smallholder farming systems. This thesis examined the effect of harvesting/defoliation interval on the yield and chemical composition of taro leaves and stylo ...

The Effects of Slaughter Age on Carcass Traits

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, 1997
The aim of this study was to determine the slaughter age on the dressing percentage, carcass weight and carcass composition. Ross PM, hybrid broilers were slaughtered at 35, 42, 49, 56 and 63 days of age. Randomly selected 25-30 male and female broilers were slaughtered and, slaugheter weights, dressing percentage, abdominal fat, thigh percentage ...

Prediction of carcass composition of lambs by joint dissection and carcass traits

open access: yesTURKISH JOURNAL OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES, 2020
The aim of the study was to test the possibility of using carcass measurements and joint tissue composition to predict the half-carcass tissue composition of lambs more accurately. With this purpose in mind, 6 different carcass joints (neck, flank, shoulder, ribs, hind limb, and tail) from 42 Kıvırcık male lambs were dissected.

Lions as Bone Accumulators? Exploring Multi‐Predator Contributions to the Olduvai Carnivore Site (OCS) (Tanzania) Through AI and Metric Analyses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lions (Panthera leo) are apex predators with a well‐documented influence on ecological dynamics, yet their potential role as bone‐accumulating agents remains poorly understood and often debated. Previous taphonomic studies have largely attributed bone accumulations in African savannah ecosystems to other carnivores, such as spotted hyenas ...
