Biological characteristics of Chondrichtyes and their endangered status [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012

First evidence of predation on an adult porbeagle equipped with a pop-off satellite archival tag in the Northwest Atlantic

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Pop-off satellite archival tags (PSATs) have been increasingly deployed on marine megafauna to remotely monitor their movements, behavior, and environmental preferences.

The status of the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) in Turkey's waters

open access: yesMarine Biodiversity Records, 2014
Forty-six individuals of Carcharodon carcharias were either recorded or sighted in Turkey's waters during a period from February 1881 to 28 September 2011. Total lengths (TLs) of the recorded great white sharks ranged from 85 cm TL to ~800 cm TL, and mass ranged between 12 kg and ~4500 kg. Three non-fatal shark attacks on boats of tuna hand-liners were

Fishery-independent camera surveys provide novel observations of white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias) off coastal Alabama

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Determining the distributions of marine animals is a challenge, particularly for highly migratory species like sharks. In the United States, several shark populations are beginning to recover following exploitation, including the white shark (Carcharodon

Foraging and Nutritional Ecology of Eastern Australian White Sharks (Carcharodon carcharias)

open access: yes, 2022
Understanding and predicting foraging requires considering animals’ intrinsic (physiological) state, extrinsic (environmental/ecological) context, and the reciprocal interplays between these that shape feeding and behaviour. In particular, interactions between nutritional requirements (macronutrient balance) and ecological context are key determinants ...

Comparative morphology of rostral cartilages in extant mackerel sharks (Chondrichthyes, Lamniformes, Lamnidae) using CT scanning [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A comparative study of rostral morphology of extant mackerel sharks (Lamniformes, Lamnidae) is presented. Based on computed tomography (CT) scans of fresh specimens, 3D reconstructions, dried museum chondrocrania and the available literature, detailed ...
