Tailoring a Functional Synthetic Microbial Community Alleviates Fusobacterium nucleatum‐infected Colorectal Cancer via Ecological Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The bottom‐up strategy based on multiomics data is used for the SynCom design, and it successfully inhibited F. nucleatum growth and achieved stable colonization in vivo. In addition, it promoted tryptophan metabolism and secondary bile acid conversion, reduced lipid accumulation, relieved microbiome disorder, decreased inflammatory reaction, and ...

Biomarkers for assessing environmental exposure to carcinogens in the diet.

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 1995
The major sources of human exposure to environmental carcinogens are through inhalation, ingestion, and percutaneous absorption. Food-borne carcinogens constitute the primary source of ingested carcinogens.

Breast cancer risk in relation to occupations with exposure to carcinogens and endocrine disruptors: a Canadian case–control study

open access: yesEnvironmental Health, 2012
Background Endocrine disrupting chemicals and carcinogens, some of which may not yet have been classified as such, are present in many occupational environments and could increase breast cancer risk. Prior research has identified associations with breast

Establishing a Policy Framework for the Primary Prevention of Occupational Cancer: A Proposal Based on a Prospective Health Policy Analysis

open access: yesSafety and Health at Work, 2017
Background: Despite our knowledge of the causes of cancer, millions of workers are involuntarily exposed to a wide range of known and suspected carcinogens in the workplace. To address this issue from a policy perspective, we developed a policy framework

Plasma DNMT1 Activity for Assessing Tumor Burden and Predicting Neoadjuvant Therapy Response in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, a detection method is presented for the activity of plasma DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1), namely DNMT1 Identification by Variable Activity (DIVA). DIVA can detect plasma DNMT1 at levels as low as 10−7 U mL−1, also it successfully evaluated tumor burden and predicted the neoadjuvant therapy responses of breast cancer patients.

Future directions in the use of DNA adducts as internal dosimeters for monitoring human exposure to environmental mutagens and carcinogens.

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1985
Scientific opportunities generally arise when two or more research areas converge and/or advances in methodology occur. This occurred at the turn of the 19th century in the field of infectious bacterial and fungal diseases.

Occupational Exposure to Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Elevated Cancer Incidence in Firefighters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cancer incidence appears to be higher amongst firefighters compared to the general population. Given that many cancers have an environmental component, their occupational exposure to products of carbon combustion such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (

BPDE induces human trophoblast cell ferroptosis by up-regulating iron metabolism and promoting GPX4 proteasomal degradation

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2021
Human trophoblast cells play important role in embryo-fetal development. However, trophoblast cells are sensitive to environmental carcinogens. Recently, we have discovered that BPDE inhibits trophoblast cell migration, invasion and proliferation, and ...
