The involvement of granulocytes in spontaneous regression of Walker 256 carcinoma
Cancer Letters, 2008We described before that oxidative burst of granulocytes is cytotoxic for melanoma B16F10 and for Walker 256 carcinoma (W256). Therefore, we assumed that granulocytes could also be important mechanism of the host defence against tumour. In current study we report massive granulocyte infiltration at the site of W256 transplanted in the hind limb of ...

Two Lines of Walker Carcinoma 256: Their Peculiarities and Different Interactions with the Host
Two sublines of Walker 256 carcinoma have been characterized for their ability to metastasize and to induce cachexia. The invasive, metastasizing line A induced terminal anorexia in rats with a mean survival time of 27 ± 1.5 days. The non-invasive line B induced early anorexia and cachexia with a mean survival time of only 15 + 1 days.

Intermittent Hyperthermia on Walker 256 Carcinoma
Archives of Surgery, 1962Experimental and clinical evidence suggests that elevated tissue temperature enhances the susceptibility of tumors and other tissues to ionizing radiation, as reviewed extensively by Selawry, Carlson, and Moore. 7 Recently, Crile has confirmed some of these earlier observations and has obtained encouraging results from the application of this principle

Circulating Walker 256 Carcinoma Cells in the Spleen
Archives of Surgery, 1967SPLENIC metastases are infrequent clinically and in experimental animals.1,2Some investigators have attributed this to the "poor soil" of this organ1; others to a fibrosing process.3The peculiarities of the vascular system of the spleen may also account for the infrequency of metastases.2It has been shown in hamsters that lymphosarcoma cells lodge in ...

Role of pinealectomy on Walker 256 carcinoma in rats
Journal of Surgical Oncology, 1970AbstractAfter years of investigation, today it is generally agreed that mammalian pineal is a functioning organ with endocrine‐like properties. Several investigators in the past have shown that pinealectomy possibly alters the growth and spread of tumors in rodents.

Antitumor effect of GPA1734 in rat Walker 256 carcinoma
Investigational New Drugs, 1990Inhibition of angiogenesis offers an alternative approach to cancer chemotherapy, since solid tumor growth has an absolute dependency on angiogenesis. We have previously shown that 8,9-dihydroxy-7-methyl-benzo [b]quinolizinium bromide (GPA1734) is a basement membrane synthesis inhibitor, and that this compound acts as an antiangiogenic agent in the ...

Influence of the Growth of the Walker 256 Carcinoma on Hepatic Transaminases
Nature, 1962IN the course of a study of enzymes associated with protein metabolism in the livers of tumour-bearing rats we have observed certain significant changes in the pattern of transaminase activities.

Aggregation of activated platelets with Walker 256 carcinoma cells
Blut, 1979Walker 256 carcinoma cells form irreversible aggregates with rat platelets activated by ADP or serotonin. Since serotonin induces platelet shape change but not platelet aggregation the degree of activation indicated by the disc-sphere transformation is sufficient for platelets to interact with these tumor cells.

Regulation of Thyrotropin Secretion in Rats Bearing the Walker 256 Carcinoma*
Endocrinology, 1981Previous studies have shown that rats bearing transplantable Walker 256 carcinoma in the thigh have decreased serum total and free T4 and T3 concentrations as well as a decrease in the concentration of hepatic nuclear T3 receptors. Despite these findings, the tumor-bearing (T) rats appeared euthyroid, since the serum TSH concentration remained ...

The fine structure of walker 256 carcinoma cells
Experientia, 1976Several ultrastructural features of Walker 256 rat tumor cells which have not been observed before are revealed. Nuclear bodies either singlely or in pairs were found in some cells. Cytofilaments were observed in the cytoplasm and cytoplasmic projections in a few cells.
