Mathematical Modelling of Growth Kinetics of Walker 256 Carcinoma in Rats

Oncology, 2009
Walker 256 carcinoma was transplanted subcutaneously to 6-week-old male CD-COBS rats. Percutaneous diameters of the growing tumoral mass were measured daily. Groups of 4–10 animals selected at random were killed at established intervals, and tumoral tissue was isolated and weighed. Tumor weight was correlated with its percutaneous diameters.

The ultrastructure of the microcirculation at the advancing edge of Walker 256 carcinoma

Microvascular Research, 1970
The advancing edge of Walker 256 carcinoma was examined by light and electron microscopy in tumors growing in rat thigh muscle and on the cheek pouch of the golden hamster. In vivo observations were made on the microcirculation of Walker 256 carcinoma implanted on the hamster cheek using Sanders-Shubik chambers.

Walker Carcinoma 256: A Model for Studies on Tumor-Induced Anorexia and Cachexia

Oncology, 2009
Data on anorexia and cachexia induced by Walker carcinoma 256 in Sprague-Dawley rats were analyzed in order to standardize an experimental model using a statistical (nondeterministical) procedure for assessing the efficacy of potential orexigenic agents.

Vascularity and Blood Flow in X-Irradiated Walker Carcinoma 256 of Rats

Radiology, 1972
Changes in functional intravascular volume, extravasation of plasma protein, and blood flow were measured with radioisotopes in Walker carcinoma 256 of rats after 2,000 rads of x irradiation in a single exposure. The functional intravascular volume significantly decreased during the 1–11 day postirradiation period. The extravasation rate of circulating

Vascular Changes in Walker 256 Carcinoma of Rats Following X Irradiation

Radiology, 1971
Vascular changes in Walker 256 carcinoma following x irradiation were studied in rats. A transitional increase in extravasation of plasma protein followed doses as low as 200 R. A decrease in functional intravascular volume, possibly due to vascular occlusion and stasis, was observed in tumors irradiated with 500 R or more.

Changes in Thyroidal Economy in Rats Bearing Transplantable Walker 256 Carcinomas*

Endocrinology, 1980
Rats bearing transplanatable Walker 256 carcinomas have decreased hepatic nuclear T3 receptor concentration and decreased plasma concentrations of total and free T4 and T3. In the present studies, we investigated the mechanisms whereby plasma T4 is decreased in tumor-bearing (T) rats.

Hormones of the pituitary-adrenal axis in rats bearing the Walker 256 carcinoma

Cancer Letters, 1983
Male Sprague-Dawley rats (125-150 g) were implanted intramuscularly with the Walker 256 carcinoma. After 3, 5 or 7 days, tumor-bearing rats, along with controls, were killed and plasma levels of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), beta-endorphin and corticosterone were assessed.

Activity of gastrocnemius and soleus polyribosomes in rats bearing the Walker 256 carcinoma

European Journal of Cancer (1965), 1972
Abstract In rats bearing a Walker 256 carcinoma the ability of polyribosomal preparations from the gastrocnemius to incorporate 3H-lysine into protein under in vitro conditions was only 36% of the normal level whereas soleus polyribosomes from these animals still retained 84% of their normal activity.

Inhibition of the development of Walker 256 carcinoma with a simple metal—Plastic implant

European Journal of Cancer (1965), 1979
Abstract Walker 256 carcinoma was inoculated into male rats within a platinum wire loop joined to a platinum disc by a length of silicone rubber and left for 8 days . In 92 out of 114 experiments tumour development was greatly inhibited. Of the 92 animals where there was inhibition, 52 cases had no macroscopically visible tumour although ...

Early Changes in the Functional Vasculature of Walker Carcinoma 256 Following Irradiation

Radiology, 1973
Early vascular changes in Walker carcinoma 256 of rats were studied following x-irradiation with doses of 250–2,000 rads and at intervals of 6 to 36 hours. It was found that 250 rads produced only a transient decrease in vascular volume and increased permeability.
