Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Post–Myocardial Infarction Scar With Fat Deposition Shows Specific Electrophysiological Properties and Worse Outcome After Ventricular Tachycardia Ablation

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2019
Background Fat deposition (FD) is part of the healing process after myocardial infarction. The characteristics of FD and its impact on the outcome in patients undergoing ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation have not been thoroughly studied.

MXene/PEDOT Functional Coatings on Flexible Microelectrode Arrays for Multianalyte In Vivo Neurochemical Sensing and Electrophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A MXene/PEDOT coating enables multimodal functionality and dual‐analyte detection of dopamine and serotonin in flexible microelectrode arrays while enhancing electrophysiological recording quality. The anti‐fouling, low‐impedance interface overcomes key limitations of conventional coatings, providing a robust and versatile platform to investigate the ...

Same-day discharge after atrial fibrillation ablation

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) catheter ablation has become an increasingly effective and safe strategy for the management of AF. With increased safety of catheter ablation, same-day discharge (SDD) is a potential way to minimize health care ...

Mechanical and Electrical Phenotype of hiPSC‐Cardiomyocytes on Fibronectin‐Based Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce fibronectin‐based PEG hydrogels with controlled rigidity to enable the culture of iPSC‐derived cardiomyocytes. These substrates offer an alternative to the current culture of these cells on fibronectin‐coated glass, providing enhanced structural and functional behavior. The system provides a more physiologically relevant platform to assess

Hope in Miniature: The First Case of Implantation of a “Tiny Pacemaker” in Italy as a Successful Treatment for Congenital Atrioventricular Block in a Low Birth Weight Child

open access: yesCase Reports in Cardiology
Congenital complete atrioventricular block (CAVB) is a rare cardiac condition occurring in approximately one in 15,000 to one in 22,000 live births. Maternal autoimmune diseases, with anti-ssA (Ro) and anti-ssB (La) antibodies implicated in 56%–90% of ...

The Cardiac Electrophysiology Web Lab [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2015
Computational modelling of cardiac cellular electrophysiology has a long history, with many models now available for different species, cell types, and experimental preparations. This success brings with it a challenge: how do we assess and compare the underlying hypotheses and emergent behaviours, in order to choose a model as a suitable basis for a ...

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...
