A 93-year-old man with a history of complete heart block presented to the anesthesia preoperative assessment clinic 1 day prior to a transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) for benign prostatic hyperplasia. He had a dual-chamber pacemaker for an unknown period of time. He was unaware of when the device was last interrogated.
