Coupled dynamics of voltage and calcium in paced cardiac cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate numerically and analytically the coupled dynamics of transmembrane voltage and intracellular calcium cycling in paced cardiac cells using a detailed physiological model and its reduction to a three-dimensional discrete map. The results provide a theoretical framework to interpret various experimentally observed modes of instability ...

Repeat procedures for recurrent persistent atrial fibrillation: A propensity‐matched score comparison between left atrial linear ablation with radiofrequency and posterior wall isolation with the cryoballoon

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, 2021
Aims To evaluate the clinical outcome in patients undergoing repeat procedures for recurrent persistent atrial fibrillation following an index cryoballoon (CB‐A) pulmonary vein isolation ablation on a mid‐term follow‐up of 12 months.

Fiber Organization has Little Effect on Electrical Activation Patterns during Focal Arrhythmias in the Left Atrium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Over the past two decades there has been a steady trend towards the development of realistic models of cardiac conduction with increasing levels of detail. However, making models more realistic complicates their personalization and use in clinical practice due to limited availability of tissue and cellular scale data.

Cardiac Memory-induced T-wave Inversions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction: Cardiac memory refers to T-wave inversions that result when normal ventricular activation resumes following a period of abnormal ventricular activation.Case Report: We present a case of a 29-year-old man with a pacemaker who presented with ...

Renal Denervation Reduced Ventricular Arrhythmia After Myocardial Infarction by Inhibiting Sympathetic Activity and Remodeling

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2018
Background Ventricular arrhythmia after myocardial infarction is the most important risk factor for sudden cardiac death, which poses a serious threat to human health.

Instability and Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Alternans in Paced Cardiac Tissue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We derive an equation that governs the spatiotemporal dynamics of small amplitude alternans in paced cardiac tissue. We show that a pattern-forming linear instability leads to the spontaneous formation of stationary or traveling waves whose nodes divide the tissue into regions with opposite phase of oscillation of action potential duration.

Safety and efficacy of cardioneuroablation for vagal bradycardia in a single arm prospective study

open access: yesScientific Reports
Cardioneuroablation (CNA) is currently considered as a promising treatment option for patients with symptomatic bradycardia caused by vagotonia. This study aims to further investigate its safety and efficacy in patients suffering from vagal bradycardia ...

Universal Method of Compatibility Assessment for Novel Ablation Technologies With Different 3D Navigation Systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
BackgroundNew technologies for ablation procedures are often produced by different companies with no cross-compatibility out of the box. This is not a negligible clinical problem since those separately developed devices are often used together.

Complex patterns of spontaneous initiations and terminations of reentrant circulation in a loop of cardiac tissue [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical Biology, 254 (2008) 14-26, 2008
A two-component model is developed that consists of a discrete loop of cardiac cells that circulates action potentials together with a cardiac pacing mechanism. Physiological properties of cells such as restitutions of refractoriness and of conduction velocity are given via experimentally measured functions. The dynamics of circulating pulses and their

Transoesophageal cardiac pacing [PDF]

open access: yesAnaesthesia, 1982
SummaryAn elderly patient, whilst undergoing anaesthesia for a total hip replacement, developed a marked bradydysrhythmia suggestive of sick sinus syndrome. The heart rate was unaffected by atropine 1.2 mg administered intravenously. Cardiac pacing was achieved by means of a non‐invasive transoesophageal pacemaking catheter.
