The Establishment of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Diagnosis Model via Artificial Neural Network and Random Decision Forest Method

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2022
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is a hereditary disease characterized by asymmetric ventricular hypertrophy as the key anatomical feature. Currently, there exists no effective method for the early diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Alterations in Portal Vein Flow and Intrarenal Venous Flow Are Associated With Acute Kidney Injury After Cardiac Surgery: A Prospective Observational Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association : Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2018
Background Acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiac surgery is associated with adverse outcomes. Venous congestion can impair kidney function, but few tools are available to assess its impact at the bedside.

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect

Aortic root replacement and valvuloplasty in a woman with severe pectus excavatum [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Research, 2018
We describe a case of a 43-year old woman with Marfan’s syndrome, tricuspid valve regurgitation and severe pectus excavatum who required an aortic root replacement and valvuloplasty for an ascending aortic aneurism with aortic valve regurgitation and ...

Six‐Month Outcomes after Restrictive or Liberal Transfusion for Cardiac Surgery

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2018
Background We reported previously that, in patients undergoing cardiac surgery who were at moderate‐to‐high risk for death, a restrictive transfusion strategy was noninferior to a liberal strategy with respect to the composite outcome of death from any ...

Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...

Applying machine learning methods to predict operative mortality after tricuspid valve surgery

open access: yesThe Cardiothoracic Surgeon, 2023
Background EuroSCORE stratifies surgical risk in cardiac surgery; however, it is not explicitly for tricuspid valve surgery. Therefore, we aimed to apply machine learning (ML) methods to predict operative mortality after tricuspid valve surgery and ...

Early delirium after cardiac surgery: an analysis of incidence and risk factors in elderly (≥65 years) and very elderly (≥80 years) patients

open access: yesClinical Interventions in Aging, 2018
Introduction Postoperative delirium is a common complication of cardiac surgery associated with increased mortality, morbidity, and long-term cognitive dysfunction. The aim of this study was to identify incidence and risk factors of delirium in elderly (≥
