Changing cardinal characteristics without changing ω-sequences or cofinalities

open access: yesAnnals of Pure and Applied Logic, 2000
We show: There are pairs of universes V_1 subseteq V_2 and there is a notion of forcing P in V_1 such that the change mentioned in the title occurs when going from V_1[G] to V_2[G] for a P-generic filter G over V_2. We use forcing iterations with partial memories. Moreover, we implement highly transitive automorphism groups into the forcing orders.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

A note on "Another ordering of the ten cardinal characteristics in Cichoń's Diagram" and further remarks (Axiomatic set theory and its applications) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this note, we relax the hypothesis of the main results in Kellner-Shelah-Tanasie's Another ordering of the ten cardinal characteristics in Cichoń's ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Euler characteristic and homotopy cardinality

open access: yes, 2018
Baez asks whether the Euler characteristic (defined for spaces with finite homology) can be reconciled with the homotopy cardinality (defined for spaces with finite homotopy). We consider the smallest infinity category $\text{Top}^\text{rx}$ containing both these classes of spaces and closed under homotopy pushout squares.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Localization and anti-localization cardinals (New Developments in Forcing and Cardinal Arithmetic)

open access: yes, 2023
This paper is intended to survey the basics of localization and anti-localization cardinals on the reals, and its interplay with notions and cardinal characteristics related to measure and ...
