The Continuum of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders in Four Rural Communities in South Africa: Prevalence and Characteristics

open access: yes, 2016
"Background Prevalence and characteristics of the continuum of diagnoses within fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) were researched in previously unstudied rural, agricultural, lower socioeconomic populations in South Africa (ZA).

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Independent and almost disjoint families

open access: yes, 2019
Unabhängige und fast disjunkte Mengen und die dazugehörigen kardinalen Charakteristiken des Kontinuums werden studiert. Die Existenz einer Sacks-unzerstörbaren maximalen unabhängigen Familie wird bewiesen.Independent and almost disjoint families as well ...

Hechler forcing and its relatives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This thesis is divided into two main parts. In the first part, we focus on analyzing the properties of the single step extension Hechler forcing, as well as two closely related forcing notions which we refer to as the tree Hechler forcing and the non ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Pseudo -dominating families of functions.

open access: yes, 2003
The topics presented in this dissertation are a contribution to the study of cardinal characteristics of the continuum. We introduce a property of families of functions on the natural numbers.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The intersection number for forcing notions (Large Cardinals and the Continuum)

open access: yes
Based on works of Saharon Shelah, Jakob Kellner, and Anda Tănasie for controlling the cardinal characteristics of the continuum in ccc forcing extensions, in the author's master's thesis was introduced a new combinatorial notion: the intersection number ...

The relationship between eating disorders and obsessive compulsive characteristics in a residential eating disorder program

open access: yes, 2013
Relationships between eating disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) have been found in several studies (Garcia, Houy-Durand, Thibaut, & Dechelotte, 2009; Roberts, 2006). Commonalities that have been found include: personality traits and common
