Canonical and non‐canonical functions of proteins regulating mitochondrial dynamics in mammalian physiology

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles that continuously remodel their architecture through coordinated cycles of fusion and fission. This review examines the four key GTPases that orchestrate mitochondrial dynamics in mammals: MFN1, MFN2, OPA1, and DRP1.

Figure 5: Tetralinoleoyl Cardiolipin With Elamipretide Treatment

open access: yes, 2019
(A) The effect of HF on tetralinoleoyl cardiolipin (mass-to-charge ratio, 1,448) in untreated samples is expressed as a percentage of total cardiolipin.

The mitochondrial‐targeted antioxidant SkQ1 prevents skeletal muscle mitochondrial‐apoptotic but not necroptotic signalling during ovarian cancer

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend An evaluation of the degree to which mitochondrial hydrogen peroxide emission (mH2O2)‐mediated apoptotic and necroptotic signalling contributes to skeletal muscle atrophy in an orthotopic epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) model. To determine whether attenuating mH2O2 could prevent regulated cell death signalling and mitigate muscle

Implementation of Nano Flow Chromatography Coupled to Mass Spectrometry as a Reliable and Sensitive Discovery Lipidomics Platform

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, Volume 40, Issue 23, 15 December 2026.
ABSTRACT Rationale Untargeted lipidomics is commonly performed at analytical flow rates, which consume more solvent and may require higher on‐column sample loads when sensitivity is limited by analyte abundance. Nano flow separations use lower flow rates and sample loads, reducing solvent consumption and facilitating improved electrospray ionization ...

Comprehensive genomic profiling of mucosal melanoma reveals novel fusion transcripts and dysregulation of cell‐cycle, MAPK, and PI3K pathways

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, Volume 270, Issue 3, Page 380-395, November 2026.
Abstract Mucosal melanomas (MMs) are rare, aggressive cancers with poor outcomes and limited response to standard therapies. A significant knowledge gap exists regarding their genomic landscape and corresponding druggable targets. This study explores this issue through a multi‐omic analysis, including whole exome‐, RNA‐, and targeted sequencing, of ...

Activity modulation of the Escherichia coli F1FO ATP synthase by a designed antimicrobial peptide via cardiolipin sequestering

open access: yes, 2023
Most antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) exert their microbicidal activity through membrane permeabilization. The designed AMP EcDBS1R4 has a cryptic mechanism of action involving the membrane hyperpolarization of Escherichia coli, suggesting that EcDBS1R4 may

Enhanced Antibacterial Properties of Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline Nanoparticles via Curvature Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 55, 5 October 2026.
Lipid nanostructured particles with increasing negative Gaussian curvature progress from vesicles to P‐cubosomes and D‐cubosomes. This curvature hierarchy enhances interaction with bacterial membranes, promotes membrane remodeling and leakage, and potentiates daptomycin activity against MRSA.

Molecular Machine‐Driven Fluorogenic Probes for Motion–Signal Conversion and Hydrophilicity Retention in Live‐Cell Nanoscopy

open access: yesAggregate, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
A hydrophilicity‐retention strategy for developing fluorogenic probes by conjugating malachite green (as the molecular motion switch) with a spirocyclization‐free rhodamine (as the signal module) was developed for nanoscopic imaging of mitochondrial cristae structures and dynamics in living cells.

Aging of Skeletal Muscle: From Molecular Mechanisms to Therapeutic Interventions

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Skeletal muscle aging is driven by coordinated local breakdown across myofibers, stem and stromal cells, immune and vascular compartments, and neuromuscular control. These mechanisms promote mitochondrial dysfunction, inflammation, senescence, impaired regeneration, fibrosis, myosteatosis, denervation, and functional decline.
