Mitochondria‐targeted nanomedicine for cancer therapy: Targeting strategies, therapeutic mechanisms, and translational challenges

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, Volume 4, Issue 5, September 2026.
This review highlights recent advances in mitochondria‐targeted nanomedicine for cancer therapy. It summarizes key targeting strategies and delineates four principal therapeutic mechanisms: oxidative stress–induced mitochondrial dysfunction, disruption of energy metabolism, direct mitochondrial damage, and induction of immunogenic cell death.

Small Extracellular Vesicle and Total Lipid Profiles Provide a Diagnostic Advantage Over CA‐125 Across Ovarian Cancer Subtypes

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2026.
Small extracellular vesicle (sEV) lipid profiles outperform CA‐125 across ovarian cancer histotypes, achieving accuracy up to 0.73 in differential diagnosis and 0.94 in screening. In patients with normal CA‐125 levels, sEV lipids maintain discriminative performance where CA‐125 alone fails. ABSTRACT Ovarian cancer remains the most lethal gynaecological

A Refractory Leg Skin Ulcer Associated With Multiple Myeloma Successfully Treated With Plasma Exchange, Lenalidomide, and Dexamethasone

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 946-950, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Multiple myeloma (MM) is a malignant plasma cell disorder that primarily presents with CRAB symptoms (calcium elevation, renal failure, anemia, and bone abnormalities). In rare cases, MM manifests with systemic complications like skin ulcers, which present management challenges. Here, we report a 78‐year‐old Japanese man with MM and refractory

Mitochondria as the Hub of Apoptosis: A Comprehensive Insight From Mitochondria to Interactions With Other Organelles

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Mitochondria is the hub of apoptosis in various diseases. The disruption of mitochondrial structure (including membrane rupture, cristae remodeling, and mitochondrial membrane lipid redistribution), the imbalance of mitochondrial dynamics (including fusion and fission, autophagy), the release, disruption, and mutation of mitochondria DNA, as well as ...

Cell Death in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Regulated cell death pathways, including apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, ferroptosis, and autophagy‐dependent cell death, interact with mitochondrial dysfunction, proteostasis failure, lysosomal stress, glial remodeling, and neuroinflammation across major neurodegenerative diseases.

Biochim Biophys Acta [PDF]

open access: yes
Since its discovery 75years ago, a wealth of knowledge has accumulated on the role of cardiolipin, the hallmark phospholipid of mitochondria, in bioenergetics and particularly on the structural organization of the inner mitochondrial membrane. A surge of

Tissue‐Resident Macrophage in Inflammation and Cancer

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Opposing macrophage functions in inflammation and cancer converge on shared mechanistic nodes, informing cross‐disease therapeutic strategies. ABSTRACT Tissue‐resident macrophages (TRMs) are long‐lived immune cells strategically distributed across organs, where their functional plasticity enables both homeostatic maintenance and pathological ...

Predicting membrane protein localization by deep learning on structure and chemistry

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract It has been known since at least the 1980's that the structure and chemistry of membranes and membrane proteins are matched. Exploiting this fact, a graph neural network model of proteins was trained on experimentally determined membrane protein structures to predict the native membrane environment of transmembrane domains from their structure.

Reversible High‐Degree Atrioventricular Block Associated With Magnesium Toxicity in Severe Pre‐Eclampsia

open access: yesAnnals of Noninvasive Electrocardiology, Volume 31, Issue 5, September 2026.
Standard‐dose magnesium sulfate may cause life‐threatening hypermagnesemia and reversible hig ‐degree atrioventricular block in pregnant women with acute kidney injury. Prompt recognition, discontinuation of magnesium sulfate, and intravenous calcium gluconate can rapidly restore cardiac conduction and improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Cryo‐EM structures of multiple‐peptide resistance factor (MprF) from Pseudomonas aeruginosa

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 17, Page 5318-5339, September 2026.
Multiple peptide resistance factor (MprF) is a bacterial enzyme that carries out the aminoacylation of lipid head groups. CryoEM analysis of MprF from Pseudomonas aeruginosa reveals a dimeric enzyme, distinct from its homologues in Rhizobium. The soluble GNAT domain contains a dynamic amphipathic helix (TTH) that adopts different positions in detergent
