Comparison between Custodiol, del Nido and modified del Nido in the myocardial protection - Cardioplegia Trial: a study protocol for a randomised, double-blind clinical trial

open access: yesBMJ Open, 2021
Introduction Myocardial protection is essential for successful cardiac surgery, and the search for an ideal cardioplegic solution has continued since its beginning.

Comparison of Enoximone, Amrinone, or Levosimendan Enriched St. Thomas’ Hospital Cardioplegic Solutions Used for Myocardial Preservation in Isolated Guinea Pig Hearts

open access: yesActa Medica, 2002
Myocardial contractile function after cardioplegic arrest is often depressed and an ideal cardioplegic solution has not been developed yet. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of phosphodiesterase III inhibitors, amrinone and enoximone, and ...

Histidine–tryptophan–ketoglutarate solution versus multidose cardioplegia for myocardial protection in cardiac surgeries: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2022
Background Surgical procedures in the heart requires protection of the heart from ischemia–reperfusion injury. Cardioplegia is the primary myocardial protective method in use.

Heterogeneous distribution of cardioplegic solution in pigs [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 2001
Septal dyskinesia in the left ventricle is detected frequently in many patients after open-heart surgery. The present study was designed to determine whether the antegrade delivery of cardioplegic solution to the regional wall categorized in echocardiography is homogeneous, and whether the distribution to the septal wall differs from that to the ...

Effect of Four Crystalloid Cardioplegias on Immature Rabbit Hearts During Global Ischaemia

open access: yesAsian Journal of Surgery, 2006
Controversy surrounds the reported beneficial effects of crystalloid cardioplegic solutions in the immature myocardium. In the present study, we investigated the efficacy of four clinical cardioplegic solutions in the immature myocardium to determine if ...

Effect of temperature of cardioplegic solution

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1978
This study tests the hypothesis that the efficacy of cardioplegic solution depends upon its chemical constituents rather than on its temperature alone. A standard preparation of right heart bypass in the dog was utilized. Left ventricular function curves were inscribed before and after 1 hour of aortic cross-clamping.

Cardioplegic solution: A contamination crisis

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1986
Eleven patients were given varying doses of cardioplegic solution contaminated with Enterobacter cloacae. Five patients died. Early bleeding, necessitating reoperation, occurred in eight patients and a total of 126 units of blood and 203 units of platelets were given (range 2 to 19 and 15 to 47 units, respectively).

Adequate distribution of warm cardioplegic solution [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1995
Seventy-five patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting were randomized to receive warm antegrade (N = 25), warm retrograde (N = 25), or a combination of warm antegrade and retrograde (N = 25) delivery of blood cardioplegic solution. Myocardial oxygen utilization, lactate and acid metabolism, and adenine nucleotides and their degradation ...
