Surgical Correction of Pulmonary Stenosis Using Beating‐Heart Cardiopulmonary Bypass in a Dog With Persistent Left Cranial Vena Cava

open access: yesCase Reports in Veterinary Medicine, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
A 7‐month‐old female toy poodle was referred for corrective surgery of pulmonary stenosis with persistent left cranial vena cava (PLCVC). Thoracic radiographs showed right heart enlargement. Echocardiography revealed moderate right ventricular hypertrophy and severe pulmonic stenosis with PLCVC.

Intraoperative Biochemical Variations and Short‐Term Cognitive Outcomes After Histidine–Tryptophan–Ketoglutarate Versus Plegisol Cardioplegia in Adult Cardiac Surgery

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Background Cardioplegia is essential for myocardial protection during cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Histidine–tryptophan–ketoglutarate (HTK) solution, an intracellular‐type cardioplegia, offers prolonged myocardial protection with single‐dose administration, whereas Plegisol, an extracellular‐type crystalloid cardioplegia solution ...

The Transaxillary Access for Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery Is Safe and Effective in Selected Patients With Native Valve Endocarditis

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Objectives Minimally invasive surgery for endocarditis reflects an emerging advancement in surgical therapy. Transaxillary access is a novel approach, with little current data on its safety and efficacy in these patients. This study reports outcomes of a transaxillary access cohort in aortic and mitral endocarditis compared to a full‐sternotomy cohort.

A novel survival model of cardioplegic arrest and cardiopulmonary bypass in rats: a methodology paper

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2008
Background Given the growing population of cardiac surgery patients with impaired preoperative cardiac function and rapidly expanding surgical techniques, continued efforts to improve myocardial protection strategies are warranted.

Ventricular Reverse Remodeling After Coronary Artery Bypass, Chordal‐Sparing Mitral Valve Replacement, and Tricuspid Valve Repair

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the long‐term efficacy of a standardized triple procedure—coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), chordal‐sparing mitral valve replacement, and tricuspid annuloplasty—in high‐risk patients with end‐stage ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy (IsDCM) for whom heart transplantation was not an option.

Outcomes of Open Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation in the Mitral Position for Severe Mitral Annular Calcification: A Multicentre Experience

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Introduction Mitral annular calcification (MAC) presents a significant surgical challenge, often rendering conventional surgery high risk. The presence of a heavily calcified, rigid, and friable annulus significantly increases the risk of complications such as atrioventricular groove disruption, annular rupture, and paravalvular leak.

Cardiothoracic Surgery for a Giant Pericardial Cyst: When Nature's Precision Leads to Surgical Complexity

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT A giant pericardial cyst, though typically benign, can present with significant symptoms due to its compressive effects on cardiac structures. Accurate imaging and prompt surgical intervention are crucial for diagnosis and treatment, highlighting the importance of recognizing this rare condition in patients with unexplained cardiopulmonary ...

Four decades of heart–lung transplantation: Milestones and outcomes in advanced cardiorespiratory failure

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 6, Page 3899-3909, December 2025.
Abstract Aims Heart–lung transplantation (HLTx) remains a life‐saving intervention for patients with end‐stage cardiopulmonary failure. We retrospectively analysed long‐term HLTx outcomes at our centre to assess survival trends and evaluate the impact of evolving immunosuppressive, surgical and perioperative strategies.

Myocardial Protection in Combined Mitral-Aortic-Tricuspid Valve Diseases Correction under Cardiopulmonary Bypass

open access: yesУкраїнський журнал серцево-судинної хірургії
The aim. To determine the optimal option for administering cardioplegic solution for myocardial protection in the correction of combined mitral-aortic-tricuspid valve diseases (CMAT) under cardiopulmonary bypass. Materials and methods. We analyzed the
