Target blood pressure management during cardiopulmonary bypass improves lactate levels after cardiac surgery: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology, 2021
Background Hyperlactatemia is associated with a poor prognosis in cardiac surgery patients. This study explored the impact of target blood pressure management during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) on blood lactate levels after cardiac surgery.

The effect of using the minimized cardio-pulmonary bypass Systems for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in diabetic patients

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2021
Introduction Multiple studies have shown a decrease in the inflammatory response with minimized bypass circuits leading to less complications and mortality rate.

Anticoagulation in Cardiopulmonary Bypass [PDF]

open access: yesThrombosis and Haemostasis, 1977
Prolonging the activated clotting time (ACT) 2 to 3 times normal is said to provide a “safe” level of anticoagulation during cardiopulmonary bypass. To test this level of anticoagulation 9 monkeys were anticoagulated with heparin at the start of cardiopulmonary bypass so that ACT’s ranged from 201 sec to > 1000 sec (normal 91 sec).

Comparison of two technics of cardiopulmonary bypass (conventional and mini CPB) in the trans-and postoperative periods of cardiac surgery

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, 2015
Objective: This study aimed to compare the effects of two different perfusion techniques: conventional cardiopulmonary bypass and miniature cardiopulmonary bypass in patients undergoing cardiac surgery at the University Hospital of Santa Maria - RS ...

Cardiopulmonary bypass in pregnancy

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, 2014
Cardiac surgery carried out on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) in a pregnant woman is associated with poor neonatal outcomes although maternal outcomes are similar to cardiac surgery in non-pregnant women. Most adverse maternal and fetal outcomes from cardiac surgery during pregnancy are attributed to effects of CPB.

Effect of mild hypothermia vs normothermia cardiopulmonary bypass on postoperative bleeding in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting: protocol of a multi-center, randomized, controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Surgery
Background Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is often performed with hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) to reduce metabolic demands and protect the myocardium. However, hypothermia can increase bleeding risks and other complications.

Patofisiologi Pintasan Jantung Paru

open access: yesJurnal Anestesi Perioperatif, 2013
physiologic changes introduced by cardiopulmonary bypass include an alteration in pulsatile, blood flow >pattern, exposure of blood to nonphysiologic surface, blood damage due to shear stress, hemodilution, and overload stress response.

Post-pericardiectomy ECMO for constrictive pericarditis: a case series and literature review

open access: yesBMC Anesthesiology
Background Pericardiectomy is the curative treatment for constrictive pericarditis, yet postoperative low cardiac output syndrome (LCOS) may occur. The application of venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in post-pericardiectomy ...

Synthetic colloids as priming fluids in cardiopulmonary bypass and postoperative acute kidney injury: a propensity score-matched study

open access: yesPerioperative Medicine
Background The optimal fluid management strategy for patients undergoing on-pump cardiac surgery was controversial regarding the fluid types. This study aimed to compare the impact of hydroxyethyl starch (HES) and succinylated gelatin on postoperative ...

Left ventricular fibromas in pediatric patients: a case series and review of the literature

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery
Cardiac fibromas are rare benign primary tumors of the heart; nearly one-third of affected patients are less than 1 year old, and only 15% of patients develop this disease in adulthood. Here, we report three cases of cardiac fibroma in our hospital.
