Evolution of cardiorespiratory interactions with age. [PDF]

open access: yesPhilos Trans A Math Phys Eng Sci, 2013
We describe an analysis of cardiac and respiratory time series recorded from 189 subjects of both genders aged 16–90. By application of the synchrosqueezed wavelet transform, we extract the respiratory and cardiac frequencies and phases with better time resolution than is possible with the marked events procedure.

Assessment of Cardiorespiratory Interactions during Apneic Events in Sleep via Fuzzy Kernel Measures of Information Dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
Apnea and other breathing-related disorders have been linked to the development of hypertension or impairments of the cardiovascular, cognitive or metabolic systems.

Time-Frequency Analysis of Cardiovascular and Cardiorespiratory Interactions During Orthostatic Stress by Extended Partial Directed Coherence [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
In this study, the linear method of extended partial directed coherence (ePDC) was applied to establish the temporal dynamic behavior of cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory interactions during orthostatic stress at a 70° head-up tilt (HUT) test on ...

Pharyngoesophageal and cardiorespiratory interactions: potential implications for premature infants at risk of clinically significant cardiorespiratory events. [PDF]

open access: yesAm J Physiol Gastrointest Liver Physiol, 2019
The aims of this study were to 1) examine pharyngoesophageal and cardiorespiratory responses to provoking pharyngeal stimuli, and 2) to determine potential contributory factors impacting heart rate (HR) changes to provide insight into cardiorespiratory events occurring in preterm infants.

Monitoring of respiration and cardiorespiratory interactions from multichannel seismocardiography signals. [PDF]

open access: yesPhys Eng Sci Med
Seismocardiography (SCG) uses accelerometers to record cardiac-induced accelerations of the chest wall. Cardiorespiratory interactions cause changes in amplitude and morphology of the SCG signals.

Evaluating sleep quality in a non-intrusive manner using contactless ballistocardiography and audio signals through a LSTM-TCN machine learning model [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Network Physiology
BackgroundNon-intrusive sleep detection devices are increasingly sought after because conventional sleep studies require multiple body-attached sensors, which are uncomfortable and impractical for routine use.

A multimodal stacked ensemble model for cardiac output prediction utilizing cardiorespiratory interactions during general anesthesia [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study examined the possibility of estimating cardiac output (CO) using a multimodal stacking model that utilizes cardiopulmonary interactions during general anesthesia and outlined a retrospective application of machine learning regression model to ...

The Monitoring Paradox: Frontal Electroencephalography Reveals Profound Cortical Depression Despite Cardiovascular Stability in Dogs Undergoing Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy with Isoflurane Anesthesia and Multimodal Analgesic Protocols [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
Conventional monitoring relies on autonomic reflexes but fails to directly measure cortical hypnosis, creating a critical information gap regarding true brain state.

Changes in visceral adiposity, body composition, and cardiometabolic profiles following a supervised mixed exercise program in women with normal-weight obesity and obesity [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation
Objective Normal-weight obesity (NWO) describes individuals with a normal body mass index (BMI) but elevated adiposity, potentially underestimating cardiometabolic risk. Mixed exercise may be particularly relevant for NWO, as it targets body composition,

Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia is Mainly Driven by Central Feedforward Mechanisms in Healthy Humans

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2022
Heart rate variability (HRV) has prognostic and diagnostic potential, however, the mechanisms behind respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), a main short-term HRV, are still not well understood.
