Phase coupling in the cardiorespiratory interaction [PDF]
Markovian analysis is applied to derive nonlinear stochastic equations for the reconstruction of heart rate and respiration rate variability data. A model of their 'phase' interactions is obtained for the first time, thereby gaining new insights into the strength and direction of the cardiorespiratory phase coupling.

Joint symbolic dynamics for the assessment of cardiovascular and cardiorespiratory interactions. [PDF]
Beat-to-beat variations in heart period provide information on cardiovascular control and are closely linked to variations in arterial pressure and respiration. Joint symbolic analysis of heart period, systolic arterial pressure and respiration allows for a simple description of their shared short-term dynamics that are governed by cardiac baroreflex ...

Cardiorespiratory interactions in humans and animals: rhythms for life [PDF]
The cardiorespiratory system exhibits oscillations from a range of sources. One of the most studied oscillations is heart rate variability, which is thought to be beneficial and can serve as an index of a healthy cardiovascular system. Heart rate variability is dampened in many diseases including depression, autoimmune diseases, hypertension, and heart

Physiological Noise in Cardiorespiratory Time-Varying Interactions
The systems in nature are rarely isolated and there are different influences that can perturb their states. Dynamic noise in physiological systems can cause fluctuations and changes on different levels, often leading to qualitative transitions.

Cardiorespiratory interactions in health and disease
Like dancers in perfect synchrony, the cardiovascular and respiratory systems perform their functions in a coordinated way. Rhythmical oscillations in arterial pressure and heart rate follow inspiration and expiration, contributing to optimizing tissue perfusion and gas exchange processes and supporting the emergence of appropriate cardiorespiratory ...

Climate Change and the New Normal for Cardiorespiratory Disease [PDF]
Climate change is already affecting the cardiorespiratory health of populations around the world, and these impacts are expected to increase. The present overview serves as a primer for respirologists who are concerned about how these profound ...

Autonomic control of cardiorespiratory interactions in fish, amphibians and reptiles [PDF]
Control of the heart rate and cardiorespiratory interactions (CRI) is predominantly parasympathetic in all jawed vertebrates, with the sympathetic nervous system having some influence in tetrapods. Respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA) has been described as

Cardiorespiratory intermediate intensive unit: heart-lung interactions.
The heart and lung (the body's gas transport system) are neurally, mechanically, humorally and functionally linked. Several clinical-therapeutic consequences involve heart-lung interactions. Three of these conditions are described here: 1) pulsus paradoxus in asthma; 2) survival in chronic cor pulmonale; and 3) Cheyne-Stokes breathing in congestive ...
