The Applicability of Nonlinear Systems Dynamics Chaos Measures to Cardiovascular Physiology Variables [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Three measures of nonlinear chaos (fractal dimension, Approximate Entropy (ApEn), and Lyapunov exponents) were studied as potential measures of cardiovascular condition.

Modifications in FLAP's second cytosolic loop influence 5‐LOX interaction, inhibitor binding, and leukotriene formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The enzyme 5‐lipoxygenase (5‐LOX) catalyzes the first step in the biosynthesis of leukotrienes (LTs) involved in inflammatory pathophysiology. After cellular stimulation, 5‐LOX translocates to the nucleus, interacting with the 5‐LOX‐activating protein (FLAP) to form LTA4 from arachidonic acid (AA).

Correlation of cardiovascular risk predictors with overweight and obesity in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
PurposeWe aimed to analyze the correlation between overweight and obesity-related indicators and cardiovascular risk predictors in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and to evaluate their mutual predictive properties.MethodsA total of 103 ...

Examining the role of insulin in the regulation of cardiovascular health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A substantial body of evidence has reported that insulin has direct actions on the cardiovascular system independent of its systemic effects on plasma glucose or lipids.

Cardiovascular Pharmacogenomics: The Future of Cardiovascular Therapeutics? [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Cardiology, 2013
Responses to drug therapy vary from benefit to no effect to adverse effects which can be serious or occasionally fatal. Increasing evidence supports the idea that genetic variants can play a major role in this spectrum of responses. Well-studied examples in cardiovascular therapeutics include predictors of steady-state warfarin dosage, predictors of ...

Evolutionary interplay between viruses and R‐loops

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses interact with specialized nucleic acid structures called R‐loops to influence host transcription, epigenetic states, latency, and immune evasion. This Perspective examines the roles of R‐loops in viral replication, integration, and silencing, and how viruses co‐opt or avoid these structures.

Salt and cardiovascular disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Blood pressure is the most powerful predictor of stroke and other cardiovascular events. The importance of salt (sodium chloride) intake in determining blood pressure and the incidence of hypertension is well established.

Alirocumab and Cardiovascular Outcomes after Acute Coronary Syndrome

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2018
Background Patients who have had an acute coronary syndrome are at high risk for recurrent ischemic cardiovascular events. We sought to determine whether alirocumab, a human monoclonal antibody to proprotein convertase subtilisin–kexin type 9 (PCSK9 ...

Prevalence and impact of cardiovascular metabolic diseases on COVID-19 in China

open access: yesClinical Research in Cardiology, 2020
Background Studies have reminded that cardiovascular metabolic comorbidities made patients more susceptible to suffer 2019 novel corona virus (2019-nCoV) disease (COVID-19), and exacerbated the infection.
