Group A streptococcal M protein elicit antibody and T‐cell responses that cross react with cardiac and connective tissue proteins in the Rat Autoimmune Valvulitis (RAV) model of rheumatic heart disease. Bordetella pertussis Toxin induce a robust Th1 response that potentiates the autoimmune process in the RAV model A robust Th1/Th17 response was found ...

Sydenham's chorea (SC) is the neurological manifestation associated with acute rheumatic fever (ARF), triggered by a group A streptococcal (GAS) infection. Anti‐GAS antibodies cross‐reacting with tissue proteins are implicated in the development of neurological changes. In this study, using an animal model, we demonstrate that a compromised blood–brain

Brain Aging in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease From the UK Biobank
This study reveals that in patients with certain cardiovascular diseases there is atypical biological brain age predicted by an artificial intelligence model from T1‐weighted brain MRIs. This suggests the existence of distinct aging‐like patterns within the brain in the precense of cardiovascular conditions.

Risk of carditis among adolescents after extending the interdose intervals of BNT162b2
Previous studies indicate an increased carditis risk among adolescents following the two-dose messenger RNA COVID-19 vaccine. Several jurisdictions have extended the interdose interval between the first and second doses to reduce the risk.

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance risk stratification in patients with clinically suspected myocarditis [PDF]
BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of myocarditis is challenging due to its varying clinical presentation. Since myocarditis can be associated with significant 5-year mortality, and postmortem data show myocarditis in almost 10% of all adults suffering sudden ...

ABSTRACT Piscine orthoreovirus‐1 and 3 (PRV‐1, PRV‐3) cause highly prevalent infection in cultured salmonids and can induce heart and skeletal muscle inflammation (HSMI) resulting in economic losses in aquaculture. However, to date, PRV‐1 and PRV‐3 have withstood replication in continuous cell lines.

Acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) are autoimmune mediated diseases triggered by group A streptococcal (GAS) infections. Molecular mimicry between GAS M-proteins and host tissue proteins has been proposed as the mechanism that ...
