Crystallization and preliminary X-ray crystallographic studies of the plant aspartic proteinase cardosin A

Acta Crystallographica Section D Biological Crystallography, 1998
The plant aspartic proteinase cardosin A was crystallized using vapour diffusion. Crystals belong to the monoclinic space group C2, cell dimensions a = 116.9 (2), b = 87.2 (8), c = 81.3 (1) A, beta = 104.4 (4) degrees, and contain two molecules in the asymmetric unit related by a non-crystallographic twofold axis.

The Characterisation of the Collagenolytic Activity of Cardosin A Demonstrates its Potential Application for Extracellular Matrix Degradative Processes

Current Drug Discovery Technologies, 2005
Type I collagen is the major fibrous protein of mammals being needed to strengthen and organise the extracellular matrix (ECM). Connective tissue components are modulated by matrix metalloproteinases, which are critical for disintegration and remodelling of ECM under physiological and pathological conditions.

The embryo sac of Cynara cardunculus: ultrastructure of the development and localisation of the aspartic proteinase cardosin B

Sexual Plant Reproduction, 2006
Cynara cardunculus is a native plant with flowers that are used traditionally in the manufacture of ewe’s cheese in the Iberian Peninsula. Milk clotting ability of the plant is attributed to the high concentrations of aspartic proteinases (APs), named cardosins, found in the flowers.

Cardosin A as a model aspartic proteinase for the study of organic solvent effects. An overview on catalytic and structural aspects

2003
Water has proven to be one of the several limitations for broadening the scope of applications of enzymes in biocatalysis, especially when the reactants involved are poorly water-soluble. The introduction of an organic solvent into the reaction system has numerous advantages.
