Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Women in STEM careers through the lens of career construction theory: A study on females' experiences in persisting in the engineering field

open access: yesJournal of Vocational Behavior
The persistence of female segregation in many science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational and occupational fields is largely ascribed to gender-specific barriers that women face during their lifespan. Relying on career construction theory, this study aims to increase the understanding of how women in STEM craft and develop ...
