A detailed redescription of a skeletally immature ‘Redondasaurus’ suggests ontogenetic transformations in the taxon mirror phytosaurian morphological evolution

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 309, Issue 10, Page 2656-2697, October 2026.
Abstract The study of morphological evolution is fundamentally tied to ontogeny, yet studies of these heterochronic processes in the fossil record are rare. Fossils belonging to an ontogenetic series are difficult to assign to an ontogenetic stage due to inconsistent proxies for skeletal ages, challenging to taxonomically assign due to morphological ...

Deceptive Overgeneralization: When Adaptive Learning Enables Systematic Misapplication

open access: yesJournal of Computer Assisted Learning, Volume 42, Issue 5, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Adaptive learning systems infer mastery from observed correctness, but this approach may fall short when learners exhibit ‘deceptive overgeneralization’—performing correct actions based on incomplete understanding. This phenomenon can mislead systems into prematurely stopping practice, leaving knowledge gaps unaddressed.

Diurnal variation of atmospheric electric field at the summit of Mount Fuji, Japan, distinctly different from the Carnegie curve in the summertime

open access: yesDiurnal variation of atmospheric electric field at the summit of Mount Fuji, Japan, distinctly different from the Carnegie curve in the summertime
In fair weather, a clear diurnal variation of atmospheric electric field (AEF), which is distinctly different from the global diurnal variation, i.e., Carnegie curve, was observed during the summer time (July and August) of the year 2010 and 2011 at the summit of Mount Fuji, Japan (3776 m in altitude).

Transfer composition: An exploration of transfer student access in engineering

open access: yesJournal of Engineering Education, Volume 115, Issue 4, October 2026.
Abstract Background Bolstering transfer pathways within engineering has the potential to expand and diversify the engineering workforce. This manuscript investigates the extent of stable accessibility of transfer enrollments in undergraduate engineering, a preliminary step for institutions seeking to be receptive of transfer students.

Virtual brain endocasts of the palaeanodont Metacheiromys marshi and the neurosensory evolution of early Pholidotamorpha

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 821-846, October 2026.
We describe the endocranial anatomy of Metacheiromys marshi. Decrease in olfaction and eye movement control occurred through time in Pholidotamorpha and is likely linked to fossorial adaptations. The development of the orbital gyrus might be related to the evolution of myrmecophagy and the emergence of a protrusile tongue in early Pholidotamorpha ...

Predictive evolutionary genomics: principles, validation, and practice

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 252, Issue 1, Page 36-48, October 2026.
Summary Climate change and habitat loss are driving rapid evolutionary responses in populations world‐wide, which creates an urgent need for evolutionary forecasting in conservation and agriculture. Such forecasting can be categorized into three time scales: trait‐based models that use multivariate quantitative genetic equations to project correlated ...
