I stank of wine and meat. Nine months as a vegan had ended ingloriously, drowned in a few too many glasses of cheap retsina. I felt disgust and repulsion for myself while I climbed the rough slope. I had deviated from the main path that circled the mountain in order to cut the distance to the monastery. I realized my mistake too late.

This review focuses on felid herpesvirus 1 (FHV-1), the most studied of the carnivore herpesviruses. Canid herpesvirus (CHV-1) and phocid (seal) herpesvirus 1 (PhHV-1) are also included where information is available. FHV-1 is a member of the Varicellovirus genus of the Alphaherpesvirinae, which appears to be closely related phylogenetically to both ...

Plant—carnivore mutualism through herbivore-induced carnivore attractants
Trends in Plant Science, 1996Plants and carnivorous arthropods can interact mutualistically. A recent discovery is that such mutualisms can be mediated by volatile compounds — produced by plants in response to herbivore damage — that attract carnivores. However, after emission of these attractants, the plant has no control over their use.

This chapter examines the challenges associated with planning and implementing a field survey on carnivores. Following the definition of the term ‘survey’, the main issues associated with the several phases of a carnivore survey, such as the planning phase, the establishment of goals and objectives, and the optimal allocation of sampling effort, are ...

AbstractThe position of veganism is ulti- mately inconsistent, speciesist and unrealistic. To be human is to fully embrace the fact that our bodies can be formed from other animals. Unlike vegans, carnivores permit themselves to be intoxicated by other animals and take plea- sure in meat eating. Nevertheless, factory farming should be rejected and meat
