Photoregulation of carotenogenesis in Phycomyces
Current Genetics, 1984Mutants of Phycomyces defective in carotene regulation were studied in relation with the photo carotenogenic response. Quantitative complementation analyses revealed that carC, carA and carS mutations are recessive and complement for this photoresponse in carC * carA and carC * carS heterokaryons.

Trisporoids and carotenogenesis in Blakeslea trispora
Microbiology, 2014The recent data on the pathways of carotenoid biosynthesis, which resulted in revision of the earlier concepts, are analyzed. Trisporoid diversity and their role in the sexual process of mucoraceous fungi, resulting in formation of sexual cells (zygospores) are discussed.

Abstract Time course studies of carotenoid production and of mycelial growth in liquid cultures of Phycomyces blakesleeanus wild type [NRRL 1555 (−)], red mutants C9, C10 and C13 and the heterokaryon C2 * C9 are reported. The ratios of the concentrations of lycopene, γ-carotene and β-carotene in the red mutant C13 and in the heterokaryon C2 * C9 ...

The effect of antimycin a on carotenogenesis in Verticillium agaricinum
Planta, 1973Antimycin A did not induce carotenogenesis in dark grown cultures of V. agaricinum, but total protein was increased. In light, antimycin A did not affect total carotenoids, although protein was slightly increased. The results suggest that antimycin A could not have acted here as an inducer for the synthesis of specific carotenogenic enzymes or by ...

Carotenogenesis and Resistance of Micrococcus pyogenes to Tetracyclines
Science, 1959Although reddish-yellow pigments, mainly δ-carotene and rubixanthine, were present in the original strain of Micrococcus pyogenes var. aureus , mutants highly resistant to tetracyclines were observed to become colorless. All strains lack lipoxidase activity.

Carotenogenesis diversification in phylogenetic lineages of Rhodophyta
Journal of Phycology, 2016Carotenoid composition is very diverse in Rhodophyta. In this study, we investigated whether this variation is related to the phylogeny of this group. Rhodophyta consists of seven classes, and they can be divided into two groups on the basis of their morphology.
