Carotid artery stenting

open access: yesCurrent Opinion in Cardiology, 2019
To present the latest evidence about carotid artery stenting (CAS) including indications, safety, efficacy, and available equipment. The micromesh stent, a new stent design which offers excellent flexibility and embolic protection, has been associated with promising outcomes.CAS has emerged as a minimally invasive treatment method for carotid artery ...

ASCORE: an up-to-date cardiovascular risk score for hypertensive patients reflecting contemporary clinical practice developed using the (ASCOT-BPLA) trial data. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A number of risk scores already exist to predict cardiovascular (CV) events. However, scores developed with data collected some time ago might not accurately predict the CV risk of contemporary hypertensive patients that benefit from more modern ...

Isovolumic relaxation strain imaging is an accurate and sensitive approach for detection of active diastolic dysfunction: A preclinical study

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
A modified approach was developed to accurately identify the isovolumetric relaxation time (IVRT) using an apical three‐chamber view. Compared with conventional echocardiography, isovolumic relaxation strain imaging (IVSI) helps to detect the earlier alternations of diastolic function in transverse aortic constriction (TAC) mice.

Molecular mechanism of ischemic postconditioning in promoting diabetic ischemic brain injury repair via the microRNA‐34a–BDNF–SIX3 signaling axis

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Diabetes combined with ischemic stroke (DMIS) exacerbates brain infarct size and neuronal damage compared to nondiabetic ischemic stroke (IS). This study reveals that microRNA‐34a (miR‐34a) plays a key role in DMIS pathogenesis: miR‐34a directly targets and suppresses brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and Sine oculis homeobox 3 (SIX3), promoting

Carotid Artery Intervention

open access: yes, 2007
Atherosclerotic carotid artery disease is a major contributor to the incidence of stroke, particularly in the elderly. Atherosclerosis is a systemic illness and patients often present with multisystem involvement of several vascular beds including coronary, cerebral, and peripheral vascular territories. The majority of strokes related to carotid artery

Wireless blood pressure sensor implantation in sheep: A detailed technique

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Twelve adult sheep underwent wireless blood pressure sensor implantation. The procedure lasted an average of 36 min, with mean systolic and diastolic blood pressures of 93 ± 6 and 65 ± 5 mmHg, respectively. This rapid, minimally invasive protocol is a powerful platform for cardiovascular device development.

Clot Composition Profiling in Large Vessel Occlusion Stroke Via Radiomics

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Clot composition may offer insights into the mechanism of ischemic stroke. Radiomics, a noninvasive imaging technique, enables tissue characterization through radiomic features (RFs). We aimed to evaluate clot composition using radiomics on non‐contrast computed tomography (NCCT).
