Peri-procedural brain lesions prevention in CAS (3PCAS). Randomized trial comparing CGuard™ stent vs. wallstent [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Aim of this study was to evaluate peri-procedural incidence of new diffusion-weighted-magneticresonance- imaging (DWMRI) brain lesions in CAS patients treated by carotid mesh stent (CGuard™) or closed-cell stent (Wallstent™).

Carotid Artery Stenting: A Single-Center Experience [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Tehran University Heart Center, 2010
Background: Carotid artery stenting is now used as an alternative to surgical endarterectomy. This study was done to assess the feasibility, safety, and immediate and late clinical outcomes in patients undergoing carotid stenting.

Curve-centered plaques raise the risk of peri-operative neurological and cardiovascular complications during angioplasty and stenting for severe carotid stenosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology
IntroductionCarotid artery stenting is an alternative interventional treatment to carotid endarterectomy. However, preprocedural considerations and anatomical risk factor analyses for carotid artery stenting are currently insufficient.

Transradial approach for carotid artery stenting [PDF]

open access: yesСаратовский научно-медицинский журнал, 2016
Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has proved to be a valuable alternative to carotid endarterectomy in patients with carotid artery stenosis. Therefore, avoiding complications becomes crucial in CAS.

Outcomes of carotid artery stenting at a high-volume Brazilian interventional neuroradiology center

open access: yesClinics, 2015
OBJECTIVES: Carotid artery stenting is an emerging revascularization alternative to carotid endarterectomy. However, guidelines have recommended carotid artery stenting only if the rate of periprocedural stroke or death is < 6% among symptomatic patients

Cerebral embolic lesions detected with diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging following carotid artery stenting: a meta-analysis of 8 studies comparing filter cerebral protection and proximal balloon occlusion. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate and compare the efficacy of the 2 different neuroprotection systems in preventing embolization during carotid artery stenting (CAS), as detected by diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging ...

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

A Soft‐Tip Hydraulically Steerable Catheter for Enhanced Flexibility and Safety in Vascular Interventions

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces a hydraulically steerable catheter with a soft tip in vascular procedures. The steering soft tip achieves a minimal diameter of 2.6 mm and supports a 180° bend. Real‐time shape and position tracking, facilitated by segmentation and endpoint detection techniques, improves navigation.

Carotid endarterectomy: The procedure of choice for carotid stenosis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Neurosurgery, 2013
Ischemic stroke is the commonest cause of neurological morbidity and mortality. Carotid endarterectomy has been shown to be beneficial in preventing ischemic strokes in patients with significant stenosis of the carotid artery, both in symptomatic and ...
