Wall Shear Stress Analysis in Stenosed Carotid Arteries with Different Shapes of Plaque [PDF]
Atherosclerosis is a disease caused due to formation of plaque into the artery. Increase in plaque affects the wall shear stress. The present study is performed to calculate wall shear stress in different geometries of stenosed carotid artery. A 2D model of different geometries is generated using CFD for Non- Newtonian model.

Association of serum-soluble heat shock protein 60 with carotid atherosclerosis: clinical significance determined in a follow-up study [PDF]
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Previous work has shown that soluble heat shock protein 60 (HSP60; sHSP60), present in circulating blood, is associated with carotid atherosclerosis.

Association between serum Mg2+ concentrations and cardiovascular organ damage in a cohort of adult subjects [PDF]
Magnesium (Mg2+) levels are associated with insulin resistance, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). We evaluated the clinical utility of physiological Mg2+ in assessing subclinical cardiovascular organ damage including increased ...

A novel approach for the automated segmentation and volume quantification of cardiac fats on computed tomography [PDF]
The deposits of fat on the surroundings of the heart are correlated to several health risk factors such as atherosclerosis, carotid stiffness, coronary artery calcification, atrial fibrillation and many others. These deposits vary unrelated to obesity, which reinforces its direct segmentation for further quantification.

Natriuretic peptide receptor-C is up-regulated in the intima of advanced carotid artery atherosclerosis [PDF]
OBJECTIVE: Natriuretic peptide receptor-C (NPR-C/NPR-3) is a cell surface protein involved in vascular remodelling that is up-regulated in atherosclerosis. NPR-C expression has not been well characterized in human carotid artery occlusive lesions.

Atherosclerotic plaques at high risk of causing cardiovascular events are characterized by a prominent inflammatory infiltrate accompanied by the presence of an extensive network of leaky microvessels. In this paper, we present a dynamic contrast‐enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE‐MRI) acquisition and compressed sensing reconstruction to aortic ...

Surface Metrology of Cerebral Arteries Luminal Surface [PDF]
Atherosclerotic lesions within carotid and cerebral vessels are likely to influence hemodynamics and manifest into vascular pathologies, including Alzheimers Disease and ischemic stroke. Hemodynamics are influenced by changes in luminal diameter of vessels and wall shear stress derived from turbulence, which directly relates to the surface topography ...

Femoral artery ultrasound examination: a new role in predicting cardiovascular risk [PDF]
We compared intima-media thickness (IMT) and the prevalence of plaques in the common carotid artery (CCA) and common femoral artery (CFA) in apparently healthy participants. This multicenter study included 322 participants (59.9% female; age 20-78 years,
