Drug‐Eluting Balloon Angioplasty for In‐Stent Restenosis Following Carotid Artery Stent Placement

Journal of Neuroimaging, 2020
Drug‐eluting balloons (DEBs) have been proposed as an option for the treatment of in‐stent restenosis (ISR) following carotid artery stent placement. We report our experience and review of literature to provide additional data.

Restenosis After Carotid Endarterectomy

Vascular Surgery, 1987
Fifty endarterectomies of the internal carotid artery have been performed on 43 patients from March, 1984, to December, 1985. There were no perioperative or hospital deaths. The permeability of the operated vessel was confirmed by Doppler or angiography in every case.

Surveillance imaging for carotid in‐stent restenosis

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2006
AbstractCarotid artery stent placement is the procedure of choice in suitable candidates who require carotid revascularization and are at increased risk for surgical therapy. To ensure late patency of the stent, continued surveillance is required. We present three cases to illustrate the strengths and weaknesses of noninvasive imaging techniques for ...

Evolution of Carotid Restenosis After Endarterectomy

Cardiovascular Surgery, 1994
Some 176 consecutive carotid endarterectomies performed during 1987 were assessed after 11.5 and 44 months. There were four perioperative deaths. At mean follow-up of 32.5 months the 50% restenosis rate progressed from 9.7% to 11.9%. Of the 168 carotid arteries with a normal patency at discharge, 36 showed progression of stenoses as Judged by duplex ...

Restenosis After Carotid Endarterectomy

Vascular Surgery, 1982
The recurrence of transient ischemic attacks (TIA's) after carotid endarterectomy is an unusual occurrence. We recently studied a patient who had restenosis and recurrence of TIA's months to years after three different carotid endarterectomies, all done on the same carotid bifurcation. This unusual case represents an extreme example of the association

Screening for carotid disease and surveillance for carotid restenosis

Seminars in Vascular Surgery, 2001
Duplex scanning is being used now to screen patients with suspected carotid artery disease, as the sole diagnostic test before carotid endarterectomy, and for follow-up surveillance after carotid surgery. Although the role of screening in patients with neurologic symptoms generally is accepted, noninvasive screening of asymptomatic patients remains ...

Early Restenosis After Carotid Endarterectomy

Archives of Surgery, 1978
Restenosis within 24 months of carotid endarterectomy was discovered in 3.6% of 361 operations. The patients in this group of restenosis tended to be younger than the overall group. Hypertension and hyperlipidemia were also more frequent. Restenosis recurred within an average of 12.5 months of the first operation, with a range from five to 24 months ...

Imaging challenges of carotid artery in-stent restenosis [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of NeuroInterventional Surgery, 2013
Internal carotid artery stenosis is an established risk factor for stroke. Therefore, carotid artery revascularization has an important role in the prevention and treatment of stroke. For the treatment of carotid artery stenosis, carotid artery stenting (CAS) has currently gained acceptance as a safe alternative to carotid endarterectomy (CEA ...

Significance of Carotid Restenosis following Endarterectomy

Cerebrovascular Diseases, 1998
Background and Purpose: The clinical significance of restenosis after carotid endarterectomy as detected by duplex ultrasound has not been clearly established. To address this problem, we retrospectively evaluated the experience at two university-affiliated hospitals.

Optimal Management of Carotid Artery Restenosis

Current Surgery Reports, 2021
In the USA, carotid endarterectomy and stenting are the leading revascularization procedures for carotid stenosis with approximately 72,000–100,000 patients undergoing surgery each year for stroke risk reduction. Post-operatively, patients are surveilled annually to detect restenosis, and at 2-year follow-up, an estimated 2.0–6.0% of patients will ...
