Carpal Instability and Carpal Injuries

Australasian Radiology, 1979
SUMMARYCarpal instability or collapse deformities of the carpus are a poorly recognised radiological entity. The spectrum of these lesions includes painful non‐united scaphoid fractures, rotatory subluxations of the scaphoid, post‐arthritic degenerative changes and acute “wrist sprains”.

Carpal Kinematics

Hand Clinics, 2006
The motion of the eight carpal bones is extremely complex, and their accurate measurement has been hampered by their multiplanar rotations and translations, the irregularity of their shape, and the small magnitudes of movements. However, an accurate three-dimensional understanding of carpal motion is critical for academic and clinical purposes, and may

Carpal Osteoarthrosis

Hand Clinics, 2006
Despite improved understanding of carpal mechanics, increased awareness of intercarpal ligament injuries, and improved techniques for treating carpal instability, post-traumatic intercarpal osteoarthrosis remains a common problem. Osteoarthritis of the carpal bones, including scapholunate advance collapse wrist, scaphotrapeziotrapezoid arthritis ...

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Due to Carpal Osteophyte

Hand, 1978
An unusual case of carpal tunnel syndrome is presented in which the excessive pressure in the tunnel was caused by an osteophyte. The importance of axial x-ray views of the tunnel in diagnosing such cases is stressed.

Carpal derangement and associated carpal valgus in a dog

Veterinary and Comparative Orthopaedics and Traumatology, 2006
SummaryThis case report describes derangement of the numbered carpal bones resulting in a valgal growth deformity in the right carpus of a seven-month-old dog. Radiographic assessment of the right carpus revealed abnormalities in the size and shape of the numbered carpal bones and carpal valgus.

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Neurology, 1985
Carpal canal size was examined as a risk factor associated with carpal tunnel syndrome in the workplace. Seven of 14 electricians had symptomatic carpal tunnel syndrome. On measuring cross-sectional areas by CT, affected workers had a cross-sectional area of 1.75 +/- 0.21 cm2; control values were 2.53 +/- 0.15 cm2 (p less than 0.05). Individuals with a

Carpals

2020
Abstract A capitate and scaphoid are the only carpal bones known from Sterkfontein, and are described here. These bones lack the derived features that characterize the wrist of modern humans and Neandertals solely on the geological and paleontological context of where these specimens were recovered.

Load distribution on the radio-carpal joint for carpal arthrodesis

Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine, 2016
Carpal fusions are useful for treating specific carpal disorders, maximizing postoperative wrist motion, hand strength, reducing pain and instability of the joint. The surgeon selects the appropriate treatment by considering the degree of stability, the chronicity of the injury, functional demands of the patient and former patient's outcomes as well ...

The carpal tunnel

British Journal of Hospital Medicine, 2005
The carpal bones are deeply convex anteriorly. This bony gutter is converted by the flexor retinaculum into a tube – the carpal tunnel, which conveys the median nerve, together with the long flexor tendons of the fingers and thumb, into the hand. It is of special interest to the surgeon because it is the site of a common nerve entrapment, the carpal ...

Evaluation of carpal canal pressure in carpal tunnel syndrome

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1995
Preoperative electrophysiologic testing and intraoperative carpal canal pressure measurements were performed on 957 hands in 647 patients with clinical signs of carpal tunnel syndrome. Fifty-five symptomatic hands in 48 patients were normal in both distal sensory latency and distal motor latency preoperatively.
