In recent years the carpal-tunnel syndrome has been established as a definite clinical entity. In 1947 Brain et al. described 6 cases and in 1953 Kremer et al reported 40 cases. These outstanding papers clarified the clinical picture and described the surgical treatinent required to obtain relief from the distressing symptoms.
