Carpometacarpal Joint Injuries

2017
Injuries to the carpometacarpal joints can be pure dislocations or fracture dislocations. The injuries can be specific to a single joint or in combination with other joints. Some dislocations are successfully treated nonoperatively but many benefit from some sort of stabilization, commonly percutaneous Kirschner wire (K-wire) fixation.

MR Imaging of the Thumb Carpometacarpal Joint

Magnetic Resonance Imaging Clinics of North America
The thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) joint is the most critical of the 4 articulations comprising the basal joints of the thumb. Peculiar anatomy, inherent instability, and function predispose this joint to repetitive microtrauma and eventual osteoarthritis (OA), often resulting in debilitating disease.
