Asteroseismology of the visual binary 70 Ophiuchi

open access: yes, 2006
Convection in stars excites resonant acoustic waves. The frequencies of these oscillations depend on the sound speed inside the star, which in turn depends on density, temperature, gas motion, and other properties of the stellar interior.

4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase in malaria parasites and enhances atovaquone efficacy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Atovaquone is an antimalarial requiring potentiation for sufficient efficacy. We pursued strategies to enhance its activity, showing that 4‐nitrobenzoate inhibits 4‐hydroxybenzoate polyprenyltransferase, decreasing ubiquinone biosynthesis. Since atovaquone competes with ubiquinol in mitochondria, 4‐nitrobenzoate facilitates its action, potentiating ...

User Effects in Beam-Space MIMO

open access: yes, 2013
The performance and design of the novel single-RF-chain beam-space MIMO antenna concept is evaluated for the first time in the presence of the user. First, the variations of different performance parameters are evaluated when placing a beam-space MIMO ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Spatially Filtered Vibration Control of Cylindrical Shells

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 1996
Distributed actuators offer spatially distributed actuations and they are usually effective to multiple modes of a continuum. Spatially filtered distributed vibration controls of a laminated cylindrical shell and a piezoelectric shell are investigated ...

Assessment of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Carrier Status by Determining SMN1 Copy Number Using Dried Blood Spots

open access: yesInternational Journal of Neonatal Screening, 2020
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a common neuromuscular disease with autosomal recessive inheritance. The disease gene, SMN1, is homozygously deleted in 95% of SMA patients.

Efficient Intersubband Scattering via Carrier–Carrier Interaction

open access: yesphysica status solidi (b), 1997
Using femtosecond resonant luminescence, we have measured the intersubband scattering rate of electrons in wide GaAs quantum wells at very low excitation densities. Even when the spacing be tween the first two electron subbands is smaller than the LO phonon energy, we observe that intersubband scattering is a subpicosecond process, much faster than ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Carrier extraction circuit [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Feedback loop extracts demodulated reference signals from IF input and feeds signal back to demodulator. Since reference signal is extracted directly from carrier, no separate reference need be transmitted.
