Carrier State In Relation to Streptococcal Disease
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1964The incidence of streptococcal illness is known to decrease markedly with adulthood (Schwentker et al11).Presumably one factor in this decrease is the development of active immunity during childhood. More than 35 types of group A hemolytic streptococci have been identified (Swift et al13), and the careful work of Quinn and Lowry9indicates that some of ...

Detection of the Carrier State for Classic Hemophilia
New England Journal of Medicine, 1973Abstract Carriers of classic hemophilia may be detected by comparison of levels of antihemophilic factor as measured by clot-promoting assay (i.e., functionally active factor) and by quantitative immunoelectrophoresis (i.e., both functionally active and inactive factor). This technic has detected over 90 per cent of a group of known carriers.

Quantitative Bacteriology of the Typhoid Carrier State *
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1964Summary Thirteen chronic stool carriers of Salmonella typhosa were studied to determine the number of typhoid bacilli in stool, gastric juice, and duodenal aspirate before and after intravenous injection of Pancreozymin®. The number of salmonella excreted ranged from 106 to 1010 per gram of feces in 42 of 46 specimens from the 13 patients, and only 1 ...

LOWE'S SYNDROME: A SEARCH FOR THE CARRIER STATE
Pediatrics, 1969An attempt to detect the female carriers of this X-linked disease has been carried out in three families, including two whose affected male infants were subjects of the original report of this syndrome. No lens opacities were found in two sets of parents. In the third family both parents had multiple small opacities.

SCREENING FOR CYSTIC FIBROSIS CARRIER STATE
Obstetrics & Gynecology, 1999Carrier screening for cystic fibrosis as part of reproductive health care, including prenatal care, is not the standard of practice at this time. However, a recent National Institutes of Health Consensus Development Conference recommended that cystic fibrosis carrier screening should be offered to adults with a family history of cystic fibrosis ...

Control of Nasal-Staphylococcal-Carrier States
New England Journal of Medicine, 1959THE increasing incidence of staphylococcal infections in hospitals has resulted in numerous studies of the various aspects contributing to the problem and the identification of some of the sources of such infections. The nasal-carrier state of hospital personnel, hospital patients and the general population has been extensively reported.1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ...
