Chemical Characterization and Physico Chemical Properties of Cashew nut (AnacardiumOccidentale) Oil and Cashew nut Shell Liquid

2023
“Proximate composition and mineral concentration of Cashew nut(Anarcadiumoccidentale) were investigated using standard analytical methods. Thephysicochemical characteristics of cashew nut shell liquid were also determined. The proximatecomposition (%) was as follows: moisture (7.2), ash (2.8), crude fat (49.1), crude protein (36.3),crude fibre (3.2 ...

Cashew Nut Shell Liquid—Natural Solution for Industrial Problems

2017
Renewable resources as substitutes for petrochemical derivatives have attracted considerable attention from polymer researchers worldwide. Cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), an agricultural renewable resource and a by-product of the cashew industry, holds considerable promise in this direction, being a natural source of unsaturated alkyl-phenols.

Antioxidant, larvicidal and antiacetylcholinesterase activities of cashew nut shell liquid constituents

Acta Tropica, 2011
Anacardic acid, cardanol and cardol, the main constituents of natural cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), were obtained by solvent extraction and assayed for antioxidant, larvicidal and antiacetylcholinesterase activity. Their relative percent composition was obtained by HPLC analysis.

The extraction of natural cashew nut‐shell liquid from the cashew nut (Anacardium occidentale)

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1989
AbstractIn the two‐stage recovery of natural cashew nut‐shell liquid (CNSL) by solvent extraction, the overall yields from half‐shells obtained by mechanical cutting and from chilled fragmented shells (to solidify the phenols) by manual processing are identical, indicating that no physical loss of phenolic material occurs in the mechanical process.

Bituminous coating: effects of cashew nut shell liquid‐tannin resins

Pigment & Resin Technology, 1999
Copolymer resins of peanut skin tannin extract, aldehydes and cashew nut shell liquid were prepared. The resins were blended with bitumen and used in formulating oleoresinous wood varnishes. The film properties of the varnishes were determined and the results showed that the gloss and scratch hardness of the films increased with increase in the ...

Modified Diesohol Using Distilled Cashew Nut Shell Liquid and Biodiesel

Energy & Fuels, 2016
An emulsifier is generally required to stabilize the EtOH–diesel mixture as a result of the difference in polarity of the compounds. This research applied distilled cashew nut shell liquid (DT-CNSL) and biodiesel as additives for modified diesohol. Different proportions of DT-CNSL, diesel, and ethanol were prepared to study the physical and chemical ...

Some rheological properties of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid-Formaldehyde gels

Rheologica Acta, 1962
The paper records the results of experiments on the rheological properties of cold setting cashew nut shell liquid formaldehyde resin adhesive gels. Ping pong balls gave a higher value for the coefficient of restitution than steel balls. With ping pong balls the coefficient of restitution was in between that for Perspex and glass. With repeated loading

Thermal degradation and reactivity of cashew nut shell liquid constituents [PDF]

open access: possibleChemical Engineering Journal
This study analyzed the pyrolytic behavior of Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) constituents—anacardic acids, cardanols, and cardols (ACC)—to provide a detailed understanding of their degradation mechanisms and predictive modeling of thermal behavior.
