Production, properties and processing of American bison (Bison bison) wool grown in southern Australia

open access: yes, 2012
American bison grow a thick coat of fibres which assists them to withstand severe climatic conditions. Bison fibre was traditionally used in textiles by native North Americans.

Prediction of carcass weight using the morphometry of ankle bones in hair goats

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 10, Issue 4, July 2024.
The study investigated the relationship between age, sex and carcass weight in hair goats through morphometric measurements of the talus and calcaneus bones. Significant correlations were found between bone measurements (GLc and GLt) and carcass weight, with regression models predicting carcass weight with 85% accuracy.

Correlation and regression analysis of FA2H and ELOVL3 functional genes for cashmere fineness with production performance in Liaoning cashmere goat

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology
Liaoning cashmere goat (LCG) is characterized by the highest individual cashmere yield, but its cashmere fineness tends to be coarse. Therefore, our research primarily focuses on reducing cashmere fineness. Through lipidomics screening and identification,

Variation in the whiteness and brightness of white Australian cashmere associated with farm of origin and fibre attributes

open access: yes, 2012
While white cashmere is preferred by processors, its whiteness and brightness is affected by country of origin, amino acid composition, nutrition and cashmere production of goats.

SNP Discovery from Transcriptome of Cashmere Goat Skin [PDF]

open access: yesAsian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2015
The goat Capra hircus is one of several economically important livestock in China. Advances in molecular genetics have led to the identification of several single nucleotide variation markers associated with genes affecting economic traits. Validation of

The prolactin receptor: A cross‐species comparison of gene structure, transcriptional regulation, tissue‐specificity, and genetic variation

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 36, Issue 7, July 2024.
The prolactin receptor has many conserved features across species, and these are all subject to a complex regulation at the level of gene transcription. This figure depicts the structure of different isoforms of the prolactin receptor in representative human, rodent, ungulate, avian, and reptile species.

Genomic prediction accuracy for five economically important traits in cashmere goats across single-nucleotide polymorphism densities and methods

open access: yesAnimal
The production and quality improvement of cashmere from Inner Mongolia’s cashmere goats face numerous challenges, including high costs associated with measuring cashmere diameter and the low accuracy of cashmere yield measurements. Genetic improvement of

Analysis of 206 whole‐genome resequencing reveals selection signatures associated with breed‐specific traits in Hu sheep

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 17, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract As an invaluable Chinese sheep germplasm resource, Hu sheep are renowned for their high fertility and beautiful wavy lambskins. Their distinctive characteristics have evolved over time through a combination of artificial and natural selection. Identifying selection signatures in Hu sheep can provide a straightforward insight into the mechanism
