Industrial Structure and Ecological Sustainability: Evidence From Small‐Scale Industries in Nordic Countries

ABSTRACT This study examines how industrial structure is associated with ecological sustainability in Nordic countries over the period 2001–2022. The analysis focuses on the share of small‐scale industries in the industrial system and examines its association with ecological sustainability, measured by the load capacity factor.

Spatiotemporal Changes and Climate Driving Factors of Compound Precipitation‐Temperature Extreme Events Across Global Land Areas

During the period 1901–2024, the dominant proportion of compound dry‐warm extremes in annual, June–July–August (JJA), and December–January–February (DJF) occurrences was the highest among the four types of compound precipitation and temperature extremes across global land areas, accounting for 40.1%, 50.3%, and 28.0%, respectively.

Spatiotemporal Characteristics and Synoptic Patterns of Dry‐Hot Winds (Sukhoviys) in Ukraine

International Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study analyses dry‐hot winds, or sukhoviys, a recurrent phenomenon during the warm season across Ukraine that contributes to rapid moisture loss from soil and vegetation. The activity of sukhoviy events was assessed using the introduced Sukhoviy Station Index, accounting for their meteorological characteristics and frequency of occurrence.

Evolution of photoperiod insensitivity drove the westward expansion of broomcorn millet

PLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
This research highlights how ancient farming communities adapted crops to challenging environments, enabling the spread of agriculture across Eurasia. By demonstrating that broomcorn millet evolved reduced sensitivity to day‐length, the study explains how this crop could support food production in regions with short growing seasons and long summer days.

Synoptic and large‐scale drivers of extreme precipitation events in the Himalayas

Months associated with maximum frequency of extreme precipitation events (EPEs). 6102 extreme precipitation days (i.e., exceeding 99th percentile for daily precipitation) occurred across the Karakoram, Western Himalayas (WH), Central Himalayas (CH) and Eastern Himalayas (EH) during 1979 to 2023.
